Default climate control - default setting is off?

So I've just started going through & programming my car & all (touring / nav). Last night I went through the climate control section in the manual. I had assumed that there was a setting that you could adjust so the climate control came on automatically vs. having to push the button every time you start it. I went through every menu I could find and didn't see anything. What am I missing? I've never had a car that you had to manually start and adjust (default seems to be 75*) the climate control every time you got in-seems a bit odd.

That is odd. Take a picture of the current settings in your instrument cluster for us to look at.

Ps. Congrats on picking up the '12!

Which one of the 30+ menus, LOL! If I start the car & then go to the info screen, I get the bar at the bottom that says 'climate control is off' - even if it was on when I shut the car off. And no lights at all on the climate control console.
So that's not right then - it should start automatically?

Oh, sorry dude! I obviously don't have the factory NAV unit. I wasn't aware that it handled the climate control.

Perhaps some of the other members can weigh in.

Okay, talked to my dealer. Apparently this is correct. Climate Control shuts down completely when you turn the engine off and only restarts manually. Guess I've never had a car set up like that so it kind of freaked me out. I know, in theory, it's best to shut everything off prior to start (less drain / stress on all the components), but I guess Nissan figured they'd just do it for you...

I'm curious to see what others say. I'd be suspicious of the dealer telling you that's how it works, because it doesn't seem right to me. The point of ACC is to set-it-and-forget-it. Having to set it manually each time you start the car is kind of pointless, IMHO.

My Z doesn't have Nav, so I can't add to the debate. My dials stay on Auto between starts.

Yeah...that's why I posted it on here. I'm pretty aware of what dealers know (& don't know). I didn't want to post 'does my dealer know WTH they're talking about?'..but that's what I was thinking.

They claim it's so it doesn't stress the system. But my Mom's Altima (with nav) isn't set up that way. I need to check and see if they did the storage fuse deal - seems like this is something that might affect. And I can't get my Homelink to program either.

Back to the dealer part: I think if I was a car salesman I'd spend the 80% of the time I wasted sittin' around with the other salesmen BS'in on learning the dozen or so models in the line I sold. I can't think of a single time I've bought a car that the salesperson knew more about it than I did. And I'm not trying to be cocky, it's just the flat out truth. I'm in sales and I make damn sure I know my product and can tell a client all about it.

Amen. I've never understood that either.

The climate control should be the same as when you last turned the car off. If it was on when you turned the car off, it should be on the next time you start back up. If the air is off when you turned the car off, it will be off when you start back up.

At least that is how mine works.

Okay - solved it! The freakin' Extended Storage Switch wasn't pushed in. Probably why I couldn't program my Homelink and why it wasn't wanting to remember certain settings like the flash on unlock setting.

Kinda scares me that their Master Tech thought this was the way it was supposed to work...

I had the exact same problem. My homelink mirror would dim, but I couldn't program any door openers in it and my climate control was always resetting after I shutoff the car. Drove me nuts until I finally took the time to fix the homelink mirror. Didn't notice until a few days later my ACC was actually remembering the setting like it should!

Still having problems with my ACC remembering the setting. I just verified that the ESS was pushed it. Now what?

we are all in trouble when the manual's have 500 pages in them...
cars are getting smarter than people... they take over control of the car when the computer tells it to.............

then we expect our local dealers to answer any questions we may have
you can forget about that...........the salesmen don't know jack..........

wouldn't it be great if you got turn key service before you drove off the lot...
everything set up explained to you first............

when i bought my 09 the guy couldn't even explain how to use the 7AT in sport mode or open rear hatch............. sorry to ramble....

The dealers I have dealt with knew nothing of this switch or the problems it causes when it is pulled out on delivery of the vehicle. And it takes a lot of owner time and effort to sort these problems out.

Dealers are idiots for the most part. Anyways it's good to have the AC off for about 2 minutes before you turn off the car because Nissan's and Infiniti's tend to get this nasty sweaty smell from the vents.
