Trying to buy a new Z

I currently have a 2010 Altima Coupe with about $10,000 left to pay. Can someone confirm my logic for buying a new 370Z with sports package?

1. Okay so there isn't a single 370Z in the state of kansas, which means any dealership I go to has to order it to be delivered. Will the price be hard to negotiate since there isn't one on the lot?

2. -Trade in my Altima for $20,000. subtract $10,000 from what I owe.
-I have $10,000 to go towards the 370Z at $33,000(what I'm hoping to pay) which leaves me at 23,000.
-Then I have an $8,500 cash downpayment. Now it's down to $14,500 which will be financed.
Does this logic make sense, am I missing something, and what price can I get for a 2011 or 2010 370Z MT w/ sport package?

3. What color should I get?:excited:

You are missing APR %, can you afford the payments?

Color is your choice.

And Yes if the dealer doesn't have one on the lot it will be difficult to negotiate a good price.

Last but not least check with Lou Fusz!

if i remember correctly from past car purchases where i still owed on the car i was trading in, the dealer will add what you owe on your current car to the price of the new car which would make that $33k you are talking about on the Z more like $43k and then they will put the other $10k towards that figure which would make it go back to $33k and with your $8500 cash down payment would lower that $33k down to $24.5k which depending on your credit and the APR they offer you and at a maximum of a 72 month loan would make the payments anywhere from $450 to $600 a month roughly estimating.

P.S.

Frogot to add that this does not even factor in taxes on your purchase

Ummm...

I'm not following your logic. I'm sure there's something very elemental that I'm missing from your explanation....

The way i see it if the trade in value is 20k, and the OP still owes 10k...then the OP will receive 10k towards the purchase of the new Z. Add 8.5k down in addition to the 10k and you've got 18.5k off agreed purchase price (not including TTT and other associated transportation and dealer fees and detail fees and you've got shorts on today fees).

You can't add the $10k he owes and only subtract $10k of value - his trade-in is worth $20k so you lost him $10k - do you work at a carnival?

His math is right.

Ps. Color is a VERY personal choice. Nearly every chump on this site will tell you their color is the shiznit and you're a foo to get any other... If it were my choice...I'd stray from white or black, but not because they don't look sick or anything. My comment is based merely on the maintenance aspect. White and black show EVERY bump, stain or blemish. Silver doesn't show dirt very much.... However, hands down, I think the best colors are the Platinum Graphite and the Monterey Blue..my that's just my opinion FWIW.

yeah i just reread my post and it doesnt make sense to me either, it has been a long day at work so forgive my brain being fried at the moment lol. As for OP, if you can work out a good deal in your favor i say go for it! payments will be pretty low and you'll be all the happier for owning a Z :D although i have to say that $20k for your altima coupe is a pretty optimistic figure depending on what engine you have in your coupe.

i realized my mistake as you were typing this, but do you really have to add in an insult at the end?

It's okay Zealot, you made me rethink that though lol. Also my car is valued a little more than $20,000. I have the 2.5S with convenience package(new is $27,000)

Anyways, when I go to the dealerships, I should ask for an invoice of a 370Z that they don't have? Also is Papozalsa correct when he said that negotiating would be difficult since they don't have the car? I figure they want me to buy any car from them regardless if they have it or not. I could simply just not do business with them at all or they could make a little bit of profit from me, and a plus would be having another customer telling other people about how good their business is.

Are you sold on buying a brand new Z? Used is always an option. I bought mine w-10k miles on it...Hell...that's barely past a coupla oil changes.

Just a thought.

Z_ealot 05-31-2011 11:04 PM

Well just to give you my scenario so you might know what to expect, i had to have the dealer order my Z as they didnt have the color i wanted (Monterey Blue), now being that it is one of the dealers on this forum they still quoted me a good price right at invoice which for the options i wanted was about $32k. As most will tell you on this forum that is still a very good price, but most of the time thats all the dealer will go down down to is invoice if they have to order the car for you as it hasnt been on there lot long enough for them to lose money on it through taxes and such that they pay for the car while it sits on their lot which is why alot of the time you can work a dealer down below invoice as they are already losing money on the car while it sits on their lot. I say if you can work the dealer down to an invoice price on a car they have to order then you have done pretty well for yourself.

I don't think used is an option because I've only found like 1 or 2 370Zs in Kansas, which happens to not be the ones I'm looking for. BTW how much did you buy your used Z for anyways Happytheman?

Okay gotcha, so invoice is my best bet and it'll be difficult to achieve that price I presume.

I think I will get the brilliant silver because little dings, scratches, and dirt will not show easily. I really wanted either black or monterery blue though.

happytheman 05-31-2011 11:30 PM

Monterey Blue M/T Sport/Touring w/tints..perfect condition...28k.

Look outside of your state. Don't limit yourself to just Kansas. Most dealers handle out of state transactions all the time and will be (wouldn't you know it) happy to help you with your purchase.

themann1984 05-31-2011 11:31 PM

Yeah buddy! Kansas is awesome!

Doesn't neccesarily have to be hard, you just have to find the right dealer to work with is all and as far as color choice goes, if you want Monterey Blue i can tell you that it is going to be a little hard to come by as the dealer i went through here in socal informed me at the time i ordered my Monterey Blue Z that they showed that no Blue Z's were scheduled to be coming in within the next 3 months. Black will be a little easier to find as it is one of the more desired color choices it seems, but to me having a Blue Z just makes it all the more rare as even on these forums you dont see alot of members with a Blue Z :)
