I carry both around 3 - 4 o'clock...I have RA and a hip that's threatening to blow out any time that precludes me carrying further back while riding, hence my choice for the auto tranny also. Spare mags ride on the opposite side. Cans and full auto are legal here in SC too < life is good! >. I don't have any comfort issues with the seats in the car while carrying.

Not to thread jack, but perhaps a more pertinent question for me is where do those of us who do carry secure our arms when we go into locations that don't allow us to take our arms with us? Do you have a lock box in your car? A cable and padlock (this is the option that I will most likely pursue, having just purchased the car)?
Depends on your local laws. In VA, the glovebox is good enough, so that's where it goes. I pretty much never leave my piece in the car though.

I rarely go to places I can't carry, and I try to leave the piece at the house when I do.

I am curious about how many who carry do so legally.

I suggest you get a handgun case that can bolt into the floor of the car and comes with a combination lock or key lock or both.

You can get a transport license, to and from a range, no deviations... but anything else is almost impossible.
It's impossible to tell how many carry handguns, legally or illegally. With that in mind, I carry mine most of the time because I don't want to be caught unprotected or get involved in something that needs my attention.

In the US, every state has a different law regarding permits to carry.

Again, that would almost be impossible to tell.

I carry legally with a Bob Mernickles external holster carried on my second belt loop around 4 o'clock and a sweat shirt over it. Wether it's a SIG 220 or 229, S&W 640 or Glock 27, all work in one of his specific holsters. Dillon's Blue Press offers holsters or call him. The gun rides high, here is a pic.

Although SC allows concealed carry and NFA items, etc, the state is still behind times otherwise. I cannot carry into an establishment like a Ruby Tuesday's because they serve alcohol, for instance. That I don't indulge while there is irrelevant. If I'm planning on going to several other places where I feel I ought to carry then I need to be able to make my sidearm safe and store it while eating or plan on eating somewhere else. If I'm traveling, the same applies if the locale I'm visiting (I have permits from several states that pretty well cover reciprocity, also) has similar restrictions. If I am to leave the firearm in the vehicle I want to be as certain as possible that some cretin doesn't just break into my vehicle but also end up with my firearm also. Due to the limited space available, I'll have to rig up a simple solution.
