Her handicap is obviously of the "mental" type...

Some handicaps are not visible - I don't think it is my place to judge as I am not of the medical profession.

It is absolutely not your place to judge as to whether she is "qualified" for that parking spot or not. But I do agree that you can judge her parking job because if you have a disability that prevents you from parking straight, then you should NOT have a driver's license

One thing to keep in mind is that some wheelchair accessible vans have to park in an accessible space where the access aisle is located on the opposite side of the wheelchair lift on the van. In these cases, you might see the van parked almost entirely within the access aisle (the striped portion) in order to use the accessible parking space itself for loading/unloading of the lift. Some people with accessible parking permits will unknowingly park in the empty accessible space (because they don't need the access aisle for loading/unloading), which prevents the person in the van from being able to use their wheelchair lift.

If someone in the family is handicap. They can get plates for the car. So they end up abusing the plate. See it all the time.

As a deputized volunteer in Travis County, I can write tickets for illegal parking in accessible parking spaces. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the computer systems that the officers do in order to determine whether a placard is being used by the person it was issued to.

It's amazing how entitled some people are when I walk up and politely tell them that I'm going to give them a $750 ticket if they don't move their vehicle parked that is parked diagonal across three accessible parking spaces. They get all defensive, grabbing the placard and pointing at it vigorously, sometimes even angrily. I just tell them, "the fact that you have a placard that I'm pretty certain is being misused does not entitle you to prevent others from using the spaces" I can even still give them the ticket if I have photos of the car before they moved it; only once did the moron continue to harass me even after moving their car that I went ahead and sent in the ticket anyway. The volunteer coordinator said they were pissed when they called after receiving it in the mail. When I explained the situation, she just laughed.

Me too. I hate that! I've seen it way too many times in my office building since my boss is paralyzed from waist down. So many times he couldn't park due to people abusing those placards.

My sister did this once.. once.

-My mom has had 4 major surgeries on her spine and also guillain barre, so she literally can't walk.
-Sister takes handicap hanger because mom has permanent plate now.
-Sister takes only handicap spot in parking lot
-Mom has to park farther away because her own daughter took the only handicap spot.
-Me strikes sister in back of head for being dumb.

Did you use an object to get her attention first, aka 2x4?

I used my very stern voice and a threat of bodily harm if it ever happened again.
