Well, to be fair...if you are talking about a straight line from a dig, the 911 Turbo 'S' is faster. If you are talking about from a roll, many cars are faster (ZR1, 458, Turbo 'S', GT2 and LP-670 to name a few). Around a road course, the ZR1, Viper ACR and a few of the new Lambos, F-cars and MP12-4C are routinely faster....depending on the type of track.

However, for the price...there isn't a better all-around performer than the GT-R. Modified correctly, they are almost untouchable on the streets....hence the reason I sold my GT2 to modify my GT-R to the levels it will soon be at.

Truth is, there's only one other platform available that equals the GT-R with regard to making HUGE power, and being able to put that power down 'effectively' in almost all situations on street legal rubber; the TT Gallardos. But at well over twice the price of a 1,000+ whp GT-R (meaning the cost of a used Gallardo plus the cost of a UGR Stage 'R' setup)...the cachet of a owning a Lambo needs to be of great importance to justify the cost.

I want a lambo. Actually a new GT-R vs a used Gallardo is probably going to be my next car decision in a few years.

I drove a TT Gallardo in March. A few of my buds own them as well. Fast cars? Yep. They drive nicely as well, and get a LOT of attention. But...I actually like the way the GT-R drives more tha the Gallardos...and I personally don't want to deal with the attention that they bring. The GT-R is bad enough.

Well-built cars, though...and UGR does an awesome job with their high-end setups. But be prepared to spend a lot of coin. A high-end TT setup (just the mods, not the car) costs significantly more than a 2012 GT-R.

I have no plans to TT the Gallardo. Whatever car I get will probably be a DD so I can't really do that. GT-R gets points for being a better DD but a Lamborghini has always been my dream car. Of course this is all hypothetical and like 4-5 years from now. I need to finish school and get a full time job first

Also, was it the LP 560 that you drove or the older Gallardo?

It was a 1,550 whp Underground Racing TT Gallardo. Not a LP-560.

Was it RWD or AWD? My Z is the highest performance car I have ever driven or ridden In so I can't even imagine what something like that would be like.

What kind of job are you planning on getting/where are you going to live? Depending on your level of pay, and where you live, a Gallardo might just be a monumental PITA. First, service is only in major cities, and second, that service will make BMW's service dept. seem like a bargain.

Chemical engineer in DC/MD/NOVA. I think he'll be ok.

Plus he's a high dollar hooker by night. I can't even tell you how much I pay this guy.

PayScale - Chemical Engineer Salary Survey, Average Salaries

Assuming that is anywhere near accurate that's not much more than I make, and I have 0 debt and live pretty small other than my hobbies and I would NOT be able to take on a Gallardo without selling my soul to the thing.

Of course, that's just an average, and he may do much better than that.

Just food for thought, but my car payments are around $1K a month and insurance on both my cars is around $240/mo. I can do this comfortably but a Gallardo is well beyond me, though. Maintenance on that car would kill me, and you can't finance maintenance, lol.

*On a Gallardo, you are looking at $1-1.50 per mile to maintain. If you buy it used, check to see how much clutch is left. It's about $5K to replace and lasts around 15-25K miles normally, depending on how you drive it. Also understand that when you bu ya car like that pre-owned, it is HIGHLY likely that you are buying someone else's mess in that you are going to have a lot of wear/maintenance items to tend to right out of the gate. Have it inspected THOROUGHLY if you don't buy new.

Car affordability is a very relative thing. I make well into 6 figures but support a family of 5, quarter mill mortgage, aggressive savings plan, kids in private school, child care with the wife doing post-graduate to start a career (which will make us a lot of money long term), and thus a $40k car has only been possible for me the last year or so, and I am now 41yo. So, what is "affordable" for me might be the same as for a 20 year old living with mom and dad, like many of the members on this forum.

I don't think I can even afford to read this thread any more.
