From a marketing viewpoint, it's stupid of Nissan to imply that either model is not "perfect" or that either model is not for an "enthusiast". Boneheaded stupid, actually.

Lost in translation, perhaps.

That vid's pretty old and has been posted before. The point of the vid was to compare tires, not cars.

If it was a car comparo, I'd expect there to be a coupe, possibly a nismo, representing the Z.

But, since it's a marketing vid for tires, so what.

Usually, whatever press car is available to use they take.

I don't think you'd want to handicap the Z like that - definitely should be an auto coupe :) :stirthepot:

So they left the stickers on the tires when determining lap time improvements on a track? :p

Thats where the term "sticker tires" comes from. :) they wear off after a few turns.

themann1984 04-25-2011 08:20 PM

That video was worthless! They didn't give the variance of the lap times! How do we know if the difference in lap times was statistically significant or simply random noise?

The 370Z is pure sex! It is hot, loud, and rough!

I know... ;)

Just seems bad taste to be so lazy as to not to remove the stickers that will eventually become trash on a closed course. Minimal yes, but at the extreme everything counts.

Perhaps, but I figure the stickers will just grind away to a very fine dust... no harm no foul. But now we're just splitting atoms. :icon17:

Split away... lol

So how do you like that Mustang? My buddy wants one. Shoot me a PM. :tiphat:

AlphaSnacks 04-26-2011 05:07 PM

I noticed the sticker thing, too...but I actually think they only did that for the shot of the car rolling away. I'm certain they took them off before the lap began. It'd be a little silly not to.

370zproject 04-27-2011 01:50 AM

slicker tires with stickers?

I know this is a Z board but really, some of the arguments here are a bit childish and bad. Unfortunately, I'm about to partake in such activity.

Not a direct quote but: "80 more hp and yet it only mustered a 1 sec better laptime"

Yeah, and 1 sec can mean several car lengths. With the competition this very close, a second is HUGE.

"Ya ya, if the Z was 400 horsepower like the Mustang, then the Z would destroy the Mustang"

BS. Same argument can be said here: Oh my. What if the Mustang was the same weight as the Z! It would destroy the Z!

Nissan needs people like us to criticize and complain about the Z's ongoing war with its ever improving rivals. Otherwise, if we just sit here and lie to ourselves that our Z is "faster" although, been proven false many times already against the 5.0 Mustang, then how can we expect the Z or Nissan to improve their Z cars more?

"v8 vs. v6. Ya of course V8 is going to win".
This is a track. Not a drag course or anything which the bigger horsepower car usually wins. Besides, 2007 GTR 480 hp beat the 505 hp Corvette and seems like no one was flailing about the V8 vs. V6 fallacy.
