It is 7,500rpm also, found that out for myself the right way.

Yeah, maybe I'll test it out tonight, it's probably 7,600 then.
I like how with the 370Z it doesn't bounce off the limiter when you hit it, it just holds the rev's there. Makes me sound like less of an idiot if I shift late. (and this is with paddles, ).

I drive in Manual mode about 90% of the time, and the delay happens in that mode too. I'd love to just figure out whether or not it's random, so I could predict when the delay will happen.
Also, when you switch from Auto to Manual (depending at the RPM, obviously), it will down shift twice. For example, going highway speeds, it will go from 7th to 5th.

I frequently double downshift accelerating off a ramp - 3rd gear is good for getting up to highway speeds quick.
In auto mode the car definitely isn't afraid to get above 7000RPM. Peak power at the engine isn't what matters, its power in gear, and at redline you are always putting down more torque than at the same speed in the next gear. I attached a PDF showing that around here somewhere...

Yeah, it's definitely a soft limiter. I could see the rpm's go slighter over 7,500, before it dialed it back down to exactly 7,500 rpm.

People would probably disagree with me on this, but in my opinion, its not revs or spirited driving that kills an engine. Its time. In 15 years, time and improper maintenance will do much more damage than bringing it to redline a few times a day.

During normal driving, rarely. But every other week I go out to the track and while I don't hit the limiter, I do let it get very, very close 3 times each run.

I don't have to worry about the limiter.

Redline? Yes, every time I start the engine.
you know what I mean..... LOL Seriously, I only have the car for 2 months, haven't hit the redline or rev-limiter yet. When I was driving the 350z, I hit the red couple times, but when the VQ35 rev above 5500rpm, the vibration was just sooo much that felt like the car was going to fall apart.... |
