what weather do you or don't you drive your Z in?

I can see that the Z is a second car to a lot of people here. I'm just curious what you do or don't drive your car through. Do you avoid driving it in the rain? Do you drive it all year, even in the snow? Just curious to what everyone does.

I've only had my car for a month so i haven't decided what will determine when i drive it but i know that i wont drive it in the winter at all but ill prob drive it through some rainy days a little.

BG40thZ 04-06-2011 07:46 PM

I've had the car for 10 months and its never seen rain, but its a garage queen for the most part, only 2k miles on her

Tauruszguy 04-06-2011 07:47 PM

No snow. No rain if I can help it. Hmmm so since I live in Chicago I figure I drive it about 5 days out of the year. lol

red6spd 04-06-2011 07:54 PM

Stays in the garage all winter (about 3-4 months) Has only see rain twice and thats only because my DD blew up and I had no other car. Other then that she is only driven once or twice a week on nice days.

cfweber 04-06-2011 08:06 PM

DD

I bought this car to drive it

not in snow last winter

I probably lose 10 days a year

:driving:

OldGuy 04-06-2011 08:11 PM

Z's a recreational vehicle for me. Altima Coupe is DD, so that the Z goes out only in nice weather. Bought her December 1, 2009. Never saw precipitation. 5,000 mi. in 17 mos. Garaged at home and at work. She has a real nice life!

chops 04-06-2011 08:11 PM

do: sunny & dry pavement

dont: rain and whenever the roads are still wet/damp

yea...shes spoiled

b1adesofcha0s 04-06-2011 08:33 PM

It's my DD, but I drive it whenever I can. Only times I didn't drive it were when there were several inches of snow already on the ground. Drove it while it was snowing once (not sticking to the road) and once when the road had about an inch of ice + snow. It did a lot better than I thought it would even with summer tires and being my first RWD car. I do not advise you to try this out for yourself though just from what I'm telling you.

I'll have to drive it in the snow next winter though. :shakes head:

Red__Zed 04-06-2011 08:41 PM

I don't drive when there is snow out, or when there is still salt on the roads. I sometimes drive in the rain, but I usually take the Subaru if it's raining out when I leave.

ZeeingAround 04-06-2011 08:41 PM

On clear and dry days and home soon as possile if it rains. I trust myself, just not others in a car like this. I have several other " disposable cars" and could care less with those. So they are driven in the bad weather, work and long hauls with the kids.

kenyada 04-06-2011 08:52 PM

I don't drive it in the snow, or rain if I don't have to. Got a DD for that. Not that the Z isn't capable but these people around here scare the bejesus out of me in perfect conditions; add a little bit of moisture and the accidents just pile up.

spearfish25 04-06-2011 09:19 PM

If the Z can roll on it or clear it, it's driven on it. She loves me for riding her hard and putting her away wet.

Blue370tt 04-06-2011 09:21 PM

I have had my car almost 2 years and 9600 miles and its never seen snow or rain. In fact, I wont even eat drive thru in her.

Mr&Mrs 04-06-2011 09:36 PM

Nothing but SunShine and the occasional Overcast. 11 Months ownership got caught in the rain once, and it does not snow here so no worries. Like most others that have responded this is one of three of our cars so its a garage queen.

Maybe we're all just a little eccentric...But ain't it fun!

EazyD 04-06-2011 10:07 PM

It sat there all winter and during rainstorms but since my DD keeps needing parts I have been using the Z as a DD. This means through rain and everything - and.. yeah it gets a little dirty, but it can be washed and waxed! It performs really well even on wet roads.

TreeSemdyZee 04-06-2011 10:43 PM

I drive it every day unless training for napping competition. And NEVER in mid-to-early afternoon.

90 ST 04-06-2011 11:19 PM

i drive it in rain, snow, hot, and cold days, it's my DD.

MyZ4U2C 04-06-2011 11:30 PM

Seems like the majority of people have bought the Z as a weekend and summer driver, I am still in the process of saving / shopping for a Z...so with good snow tires, does the Z handle well enough? I remember my first car was a rear wheel old mercury zephyr ...and I was only 16/17ish and I did ok with salt bags in the trunk .. but I would be getting a Z as a DD...so is it capable of handling snow? seems like a lot of people dont want anything to do with mixing the Z with snow lol..

ezowner 04-06-2011 11:35 PM

mine is a garage queen. it's had merely 3K miles since I bought it new a year ago. And it never sees rain.

cajunz 04-06-2011 11:38 PM

Only when the weather is nice. No rain or snow. She just came out of 5 months of hibernation in the hanger. She fits nicely under the wing of the King Air.

I drive mine about 50-60,000kms a year, and no problems in the winter, if you were able to get that old car around in the winter you'll have no problems with a Z and some good winter wheels and tires.

ImportConvert 04-07-2011 12:23 AM

I don't have a 370, but I have another 2-seater sports car that is a "toy". I drive it the same way I would a 370Z. Fair weather only. What's the point driving the car in conditions that prevent you from...driving...the car? I have been in those 370Z's, and they like to spin the tires, even in dry weather. I cannot imagine a car like that in the rain being anything but a game of cat and mouse regarding maintaining traction.

Montez 04-07-2011 12:25 AM

Every other day, rain or shine..... Neither comes out in Ice etc although don't trust other drivers. It's just a Z and it "aint" going to be worth nothing in no time soon if at all so I roll it.....lol.

KillerBee370 04-07-2011 12:34 AM

It's a second car for me and I drive it in all weather. But I'm in California so...

shumby 04-07-2011 01:01 AM

its my DD. rain snow whatever. I avoid hale though

christian370z 04-07-2011 01:26 AM

I avoid driving in anything but dry conditions as much as possible so the Z has seen rain only a handful of times while driving. I don't care if it rains on the Z while it is parked but driving in the rain gets nasty grime into every single crack and crevice which drives me up the wall.

Then again, I do wheel off details every month or so... My OCD rulez my life!

370zproject 04-07-2011 01:38 AM

i drive in everything cept snow / hail (its been hit by hail 2 times hellow 400 $ )

schrack150 04-07-2011 02:03 AM

sunny days only if possible.... doesn't run well in heavy rain with injen intakes

yea that would not work

kenchan 04-07-2011 07:07 AM

No driving in salt or heavy rains. I prefer sunny days but if I know I have time to wash her id drive in the wet. Most of the time I don't have the lux to wash or detail each time so I just don't get her dirty to begin with.

Fire 04-07-2011 07:39 AM

Don't drive in snow or salt still on the road and if I know it will be raining. Did drive it in a gully wash on the way home from last years Imports at Carlisle. Took me 3 hours to detail it afterwards. My Z is actually my 3rd car, 1st in winter is 2005 Nissan Titan, 1st in summer 2003 Mitsu Eclipse with vert. doors. So the Z is only a good weather car.:ugh2:

FromG2Z 04-07-2011 08:00 AM

All my previous toys have never seen rain. Period. Ever. If chance of precipitation is greater than 20% she doesn't come out.... even more so snow. So my toys are only fair weather/garage queen cars, driven maybe 1x or 2x a week. Plus now that we have a kid, I have to take turns dropping him off and picking him up so Zena gets driven even less :( She only has 500 miles on her since I bought her last year.

Had a 1993 FD RX7, never seen rain. Also had a 2003 G coupe with 13k miles and never seen rain when I traded her in for Zena.

DrEvil 04-07-2011 08:25 AM

It's my DD , but when there is snow the Z don't go.( I use Mrs Evils' AWD Volvo XC-70 with a cbe and cai):stirthepot:

USMCASA 04-07-2011 08:39 AM

its my DD and I drive it in all weather other than hail, snow is defeated by the awesome michelin tires I have and it doesn't snow often in NC

Econ 04-07-2011 08:47 AM

she sees everything...looking to get a new DD soon though

Mt Tam I am 04-07-2011 08:56 AM

I drive it every day except "Costco day". Where the little lady and I fill up her car with bulk items.
