2011 Nissan 370Z Touring First Test - Motor Trend

red6spd 04-01-2011 06:10 PM

"A rocket it isnt" lol. That seems pretty fast to me.

Jordo! 04-01-2011 06:19 PM

They should have tested the 7AT -- it would have been a little faster :D

phelan 04-01-2011 06:20 PM

They should test the Nismo - it would've flown.

But then may have said its a "rocket"..hehe

esfourteen 04-01-2011 06:31 PM

the MSRP on a fully loaded Z is pretty ridiculous, I'll give them that.

2011 Nissan 370Z Touring First Test - Motor Trend

"Compared to our long-term 370Z Roadster, the coupe serves as the ideal long-distance tourer by virtues of side visibility, overall civility, and [U][B]
cabin quietness."

Cabin quietness??? That's a stretch but I guess everything is relative.

chops 04-01-2011 06:48 PM

^ *shrug*

you guys complain too much about road noise. its to be expected with wide 19" tires... my 2006 corolla daily driver, now that is LOUD.

AlphaSnacks 04-01-2011 07:14 PM

The 2011 model year also brings the 370Z Roadster's synthetic suede door and seat inserts to the coupe. The soft, cozy material gives the comfortable, attractive cabin a higher-quality feeling. Leather-wrapped electronically adjustable seats remain standard in the top-level Touring, and support your bum and back with firm cushioning.
This is actually wrong. My 2010 has this too. I thought 2009s did too?

You can get a Z for invoice no problem, that's like $3500 below MSRP. And if you get lucky and land a VPP (like me)...that's another $2000. :)

wilsonp 04-01-2011 07:51 PM

I might have to upgrade to get that vicious LSD - I don't think my viscous one competes.

My 2009 has alcantara in the doors and the seats - it really is a pretty bad article.

AlphaSnacks 04-01-2011 09:01 PM

Hahaha, yeah the vicious LSD sounds pretty bad ass.

I heard they were supposed to test a Nismo but they couldn't catch it. The sparrow's are much easier to get ahold of.

Glad to see some good times and a good review out of MT.

ProfessorDave 04-02-2011 08:02 AM

I did not know I was supposed to calculate my dollar-to-grin factor. I have not kept track of my grins.

Does anyone know where I could find a formula to calculate this, going back to last July? :ugh2:

Oh, and for the record Motor Trend, rocket speeds are somewhere in the 20,000 - 40,000 mph. So not even a GT-R, Viper, Steve's Mustang or a P-car would be "a rocket". :stirthepot:

Footloose301 04-02-2011 08:25 AM

I know I'm happy no matter what they're review is. However, I think all the Z's should come with the Nismo brake pads.

That was actually an option, why didn't you get it?

shadoquad 04-02-2011 08:38 AM

They tested a fully loaded coupe and talked about its MSRP.

I mean, beside the fact that you can get a fully loaded coupe for WELL under 42k, you can get a base no-frills Z for under 30k if you know how to deal.

But it is funny that 0-60 in under 5 and 1/4 mile in 13 is considered slow these days.

UNKNOWN_370 04-02-2011 08:54 AM

I don't even bother pondering car mag articles anymore. If this was a german mark. They would be so impressed with much less stats. Whenever the car names are Asian, they always nitpick small stuff. The only thing I can agree with is touring sticker shock. Not much is added for an extra 4k. I do agree on its base, sport and nav pricing.

Steve's mustang just needs a unicorn blood and horse pop injection and it should be able to reach those speeds :icon17:

christian370z 04-02-2011 11:52 AM

I thought the article was pretty positive in general, at least they made sure to emphasize how much value you get for your money with the Z which is likely its greatest attribute.

Yeah, this writer didn't do his homework. Or he just listened to the dumb Nissan sales people who probably said that. It amazes me how car salesmen can know less about their cars than potential customers.

I have the 40th. They weren't any options dude. I was just saying that I think it should've been a standard rather than an option.

I think Nismo pads come standard on the 40th.

I have Nismo pads on my fully loaded Touring. :)

They dust a little more, but the amount of heat they can withstand is absolutely amazing.

Yes, that's why everything has to be put in a relative scale. Heck, my wife's SUV did 13.8 when I was at the dragstrip. It feels way more powerful than my 370 even though it is slightly slower.

Steve's Mustang can't beat my car with unicorn blood. Mine runs on Ethanol-free tiger blood!!! :happydance:

On a side note, have you guys read about the G37 IPL? It's not that impressive... heavy and pricey.

Yep, way to pricey. All show and no more go!

Kind of like the Nismo Z. Has a new body kit, a few suspension upgrades, and I think same amount of HP as the Nismo.

sonic370 04-02-2011 08:09 PM

i thought it pretty well hit the mark on the 370..............

if anyones pays msrp they should get their head check out...............

wish i had a nickel for every time someone said the 3 grand for the sports package is the best value on any car made today period...............

as far as the grin factor goes my face was sore months ago....... :driving::driving:

Yeah, here's a couple of articles about the IPL G. I still loved my 2003 G35C shape better. And this new IPL is around 50g's? whoa... Why pay 50g's for a car that's much slower and heavier than our Z's? IPL 0-60 I think is 5.3-5.4. I know our Z's vary from 4.7-5.1. Plus no synchro rev!!! I guess you do gain a back seat, and the fact that the IPL is more geared to compete against the M3 and S5...

I would rather get a regular G37 than the ipl. It's like how there's a base Z and a Nismo Z. I like to look at the IPL as the Nismo equivalent for the G37.

IPL is no where near the level of the M3 or S5. Maybe more like 335is.

DIGItonium 04-02-2011 11:43 PM

The G37 IPL doesn't look too bad, and it comes with nice features. More power + weight + price... meh. I was close to trading in the 350Z for the G37, but was happy to back away from it. It was priced around $33k-35k at the time, which wasn't bad at all. The same with our Zs... it's approaching the 40k mark. O_o

I was looking at cars just 3 months ago. I was going to get a used 09 G37 coupe for around $32k. Then out of nowhere, my parents finally said yes to me getting 370Z and I bought one like 2 weeks later :D

Note: Before some one tries to flame me by saying that my parents bought me the car, let me say that this is not the case. I payed for my car with all of my own money including gas, insurance, maintenance, etc. My parents were not comfortable with me getting a sports car since they didn't think it would be safe. After much convincing from me and my uncle that the Z was perfectly the same and pretty much a G37 with 2 less seats, they were finally OK with it
