you dont have to like him, but you lose your credibility when you buy into the stupid conspiracy theories. let me guess, you think everything democrat does is bad. grow up and learn how to think for yourself.

oh yea synchro rev....ok I got a question since I don't have it. Does it use up more fuel since it has to match up the revs everytime there's a downshift?

haggomyeggo 03-31-2011 03:10 PM

probably, not really sure. you dont have the same engine braking downshifting like with a normal car unless you turn the system off. but it is fun to pull up to a light and put it in to second and hear the engine rev just as you come to a stop though

probably not noticeably.

haggomyeggo 03-31-2011 03:26 PM

the gas guage pisses me off either way every time i notice another light went out.......

uhhh what? it works exactly the same as if you downshifted yourself, it just matches the rev's for you.

USMCASA 03-31-2011 03:34 PM

it still engine breaks, just from a higher(proper)rev for a lower gear

haggomyeggo 03-31-2011 03:34 PM

yes but when it matches the revs, its ready to go instead of giving you sensation of throwing you forward in your seat . I am not explaining it well. i just know i think it feels different downshifting coming up to a light with it on or off. If i want to pound around the corner the SRM is awesome. but i usually just leave the car in gear till i get up to the light and then throw it in neutral.

cossie1600 03-31-2011 03:35 PM

you mean the stupid gas gauge actually works?

that "sensation" your are describing is a result of you NOT rev matching properly when downshifting, enjoy your clutch while it lasts.

haggomyeggo 03-31-2011 03:39 PM

it works, i didnt say it worked well.....

i do prefer a regular guage but i think they wanted to get all that stuff on that little screen. why they couldnt include a digital speedo like the 350 who knows. i kinda liked having that sometimes.

i loved the s2000 digital dash, it was cool on a honda but other cars not so much but the lights for the gas everytime one goes out its just a little depressing....

cossie1600 03-31-2011 03:42 PM

its more depressing when i have to pay 3.98 per gallon.....

im not really trying to match the revs. You would do the same thing in a large truck to slow it down without overwhelming the brakes. i just go from 4th to 3rd and let the clutch out smoothly, not giving it any gas and it slows the car down smoothly and i dont have to sit there riding the clutch. its called engine braking in driving a big truck. or at least thats what they called it when i got my CDL.

also i have heard (not saying it is true) but if you leave a manual car in gear and let it coast with your foot off the gas the engine does not use any gas. This doesnt seem completely logical but it probably uses slightly less than putting the car in N and coasting up to a stop. Safer to if you need to use power to avoid an accident or something

drove 94k on a stock clutch in a 350z never a problem.
so not sure what you mean about "hope your clutch lasts".......

thats about what it is in IL for premium 93. Little cheaper in MO so i just fill up whenever im over there.

cossie1600 03-31-2011 03:56 PM

you double clutch, problem solved.....

yes cars dont use much gas when you are coasting or deccel

well yes then i do....
just how i was taught. I was driving a grain truck for my g-dad when i was 17 so i learned pretty early.

didnt get my first manual car till i was 19. No complaints on the 370tranny. I thought the 350 was a bit crude but that was comparing it to my buddies s2k
those transmissions are smooth as butter

Ive always engine breaked, and never had any clutch problems.

esfourteen 03-31-2011 04:08 PM

It's pretty simple, if you are downshifting without rev matching, you are slipping your clutch and causing driveline shock, and yes this will result significant engine braking.

haggomyeggo 03-31-2011 04:10 PM

yeah that guy must have burnt a clutch or something.

i was impressed the 350 stock clutch lasted 95k really. ran a couple of cone courses. never really beat on it hard but still i had heard some people have killed their 350 clutches in like 20k or something.

freakin kids........

gas is getting so expensive that i just drive the prius

Astrosfan 03-31-2011 04:36 PM

I was wondering about fuel consumption too. Personally, i would think it would matter that much, but then again, i dont know Sh3t.

I've been driving a manual for about 15 years and the SRM is a very nice feature. It makes driving more fun and less taxing in traffic. Nissan did a very good job with this. I would even go as far to say this would be a good first manual car for someone, as long as they respect the power of the beast.

I don't think this is what people mean when they say "engine braking." Typically, engine braking happens whenever you are in gear and not touching the gas. Put it in first and gun it to about 6000 rpm, then let off the gas completely. You will feel the engine braking without downshifting as you described.

Honestly, probably to avoid the potential negative backlash of another Rwanda situation... :ugh2:

Glad you are safe in Nebraska instead of in Iraq.

It least i'm not loving a guy that openly admits to hating the country that stupidly voted him in. I believe all politicians are in it for them selves, and don't give a crap about the people. Case in point the obamacare, over 70% of the country's population didn't want it but it's there anyway.

You are batsh!t crazy, spectacularly misinformed, and flat out fvckin wrong.
