Where do you park your Z

I just wanted to get a general consensus here. I came out of a local eatery this evening to find this wedged in my driver's window:

http://i56.tinypic.com/33ol6b6.jpg

Yes...yes...I'm one of THOSE guys that choose to park in two spaces, but I generally park out beyond the mass populous. Tonight, I will admit I did get a little over-zealous and took up two spaces relatively close...so I can certainly understand why someone might get a little upset. After plunking down some good coin on my Z the LAST thing I want is some door-dinging vehicle slapping their armored 400 lb. door into my Z.

nolan1016 03-20-2011 08:17 PM

If every person with a 30,000 dollar took up 2 spots we would have a serious parking issue. If ferraris can park in one spot then I sure as hell can.

Highway 03-20-2011 08:28 PM

I always go far out or in a corner where the car is protected. I usually like the long walk anyway and the wife finally doesn't mind either.

Red__Zed 03-20-2011 08:32 PM

I park far away, but only take up one spot. I usually try to snag an edge spot, and squeeze up close to the curb.

SmoothZ 03-20-2011 08:35 PM

I love parking the Z far away from everyone because I enjoy looking at the car as I walk away or towards it. Besides, I figure if someone tries to break into it, they can't be sneaky about it when there's nothing to hide them out in the open.

TheGreatOne 03-20-2011 08:37 PM

If I can't be the closest to the door of a restaurant/store then I'll park further away...or around where the employees park which is usually the more dead area of the parking lot and on the side.

Thats hilarious that someone posted that on your car though lol

delusional 03-20-2011 08:41 PM

I think its worst to take up 2 parking spots. People around here key your car if you take up 2 spots :shakes head:

happytheman 03-20-2011 08:47 PM

Duly noted. I do think it's a better option to park in the outer 40 in a single spot so's not to piss anyone off.

Dreezy562 03-20-2011 08:47 PM

ya your lucky all you got was a note on ur window. your very luck they didnt key your car.

kenchan 03-20-2011 08:48 PM

i take my dd... fit it in the tightest of parking spots even next to a $200K car. :D

christian370z 03-20-2011 09:56 PM

It depends on where I am and what is available, but I now park in the middle grounds of any parking lot I go in since someone always parks right next to you if you try to go as far away as possible but I refuse to park in the ding zone. At school, I park in a lesser known parking lot which means my car is the only one there for weeks at a time. :)

OldGuy 03-20-2011 10:08 PM

In my private garage when I'm at home, in my my private garage when I'm at my office building and far, far away from everyone else when I'm anywhere else. There simply are way too many thoughtless people in filthy, dented vehicles, who have no idea of concern for a car, around these parts.

+1
Thank you.

I park far back in the lot because my fat butt needs the walk.

KillerBee370 03-20-2011 10:15 PM

I can't stand that sh*t. Don't take up 2 spots. A note on your window was the easy and inexpensive ticket out today. Tomorrow you might get someone like me who will make you call the tow truck just to get home.

Food for thought.

What a sad, pathetic life to be that uptight. ANYONE keying a car needs to be tied to a pole in a hog pen and covered in peanut butter.

jaedub 03-21-2011 12:34 AM

what we need is one of these...

You take you parking spots on purpose here in VA/DC, your car will likely get keyed. That's simply asking for trouble.. You don't drive a Bugatti bro, grow up

wrd nyc don't play with that ****. we'll key ur car anyways lol
but seriously, don't do it unless ur parked in a empty lot where it honestly wouldn't matter if u parked horizontally.
most people will think ur a douche, a some will key it, and a few will go farther than that. so unless it's a 911 turbo or a ferrari, go around the lot a few more times til you find a wider 1 lane spot

happytheman 03-21-2011 06:53 AM

Wow! I didn't mean to :stirthepot:

I've had my Z for all of a week and still think of it like I'm driving a Bugatti.

As you may have read earlier I felt that I'd gotten a few responses that didn't agree with my methods...enough for me to reconsider my actions. :icon14:

Jessobear 03-21-2011 07:07 AM

My preferred spot is the end of the row, so I can park all the way to one side of the space. If I'm going somewhere that I know parking is really bad, I'll take my work car.

b1adesofcha0s 03-21-2011 07:11 AM

In my apartment complex's parking lot, I try to park next to my parents' or my sister'a car so I'm at least safe from one side. In store/mall parking lots, I try to park far away or next to other Z's ;)

Jordo! 03-21-2011 07:37 AM

Honestly, the more obvious effort one puts into attempting to protect their car, the more likely some random dingleberry will fvck with you.

I try to park next to other reasonably nice, non-dented cars or next to a wall/divider so I only have to deal with one person on one side of me.

I'll go and park at the end of the lot if I'm in a crowded place, or there's likely to be drunken people wandering about.

Otherwise, if there's one nearby, I'll go for a parking garage.

However, if I were you, I would NOT take up two spots -- that is like putting a "kick me" sign on your back...

igotcabada 03-21-2011 08:27 AM

I was going to start a new thread, but this kind of relates to this subject. I normally park far away enough at my train stop for work so that noone parks next to me and on my left is the curb. I pull through the spot so I can just pull away when I leave.

So Friday I get to my car and there is a parking ticket on it, so i'm immediately like WTF, I park in the same spot every day for like 6 months. I read the ticket and it says " TAKING UP 2 PARKING SPOTS " so I"m still like WTF!.... I look at my car and when I pulled through the spot, I left my back bumper about 3 inches over the white line, but there was a car in the spot I was allegedly taking up. :shakes head: So yeah, I took a picture and appealed it immediately, but if you take up 2 spots (or even if you don't), you might not only get keyed or a sticky on your car, you might also get a ticket.

I have heard and read thing like this for many years. When I was a member of the corvette forum things like this came up all the time. One thing that I have learned is that no matter what you drive Ferrari, 370Z you are in a car that already attracts attention. Just remember no matter wear you park up close or the last spot in the lot, only take up ONE spot. You will be just OK.

haggomyeggo 03-21-2011 08:50 AM

I pretty much always back in. However at work I usually park at the end of the row with a curb on one side and a spot on the other. The space I use for this used to get parked in my some **** investment guy who works upstairs for Huntleigh. Now he parks his POS lincoln in the space next to mine. at least be backs in too and leaves plenty of space between our cars. He is still a **** for the way he acts.

And he wears too much old spice:shakes head::shakes head:

Jessobear 03-21-2011 09:02 AM

Taking up two spots is the biggest douche move you can do with a car. Every time I see this, it's always someone with a car that really isn't worth very much.

bflosabre91 03-21-2011 09:12 AM

i always park far away and i try to park next to a median thing if possible, so then theres only 1 side of my car that someone can park next to. sometimes i take a chance if theres no choice and i can get next to a nice car where you would probably assume they would go out of their way to be careful.

Wow so many people hating on the poor OP :)

Parking close and taking two spots, that a no-no. Taking two spots in a city like DC/NYC or where space is at a premium, no-no.

But I use to live out in North Carolina, where the parking lot had 200 spots for 30 cars, and i would take up 2 spots at the back back end where the wildlife roamed. **** move? I guess, but really I wasn't taking a spot from anyone, and I was so far out probably noone even saw :P

As the OP, I really have been thinking that I should have just kept my thoughts to myself..... I certainly didn't expect to be considered the biggest douche-bag this side of the Mason/Dixie...and to your point..I don't live in DC, nor do I live in New York. Hell, I don't even live in Central Florida... I live on the east coast of Florida and, as stated in the opening post, "I generally park out beyond the mass populous".

So, in closing, my much-hated-upon douche-bag self will retain the space of a single spot....but in the far far regions of the galaxy where nobody will be offended by my Z34's presence. :wtf2:

It's not a **** move, it's just lame and everyone who sees your car parked like that thinks you're a douche. Your car isn't an exotic, it's a 370Z.

When I'm out in the suburbs driving around for work, I always see this STI parked way out in the corner of this lot, sideways across two spots. This is not a lot where parking spots are at a premium, so he isn't stealing a spot from anyone. Every time I see this car, I think:

1. I wonder if that guy knows that everyone in that building thinks he's a douche for parking his car like that?
2. Nobody cares about your stupid STI, brah.

You know those Miller Lite commercials where the guy always get called out by the hot female bartender? The two-space parker is like one of those guys.

2011 Nismo#91 03-21-2011 12:01 PM

I would never take up 2 spots upfront. People get pissed at that crap and might even key your car because your being inconsiderate. I always park in the back but like a normal person, no need to take up two spots if no one was going to use them in the first place.

I once saw a H1 parked at a Wholefoods taking up two spots upfront in a very crowed parking lot. I'm sure a few prius owners walking by it kept their keys out as they walked by.

haggomyeggo 03-21-2011 12:12 PM

bartender: more taste or less taste?

OP: i dont care i gotta 370Z

bartender: ok well come back when you move your small japanese hatchback out of the 3 spaces with cones placed around it and I will give you a real beer

for the record i think miller sucks BL smoothies all the way

This! Also a lot of times at various places the end spot has a little extra room. I almost always park this way in this spot (or away from where anyone else parks) when I go into work:

http://box.houkouonchi.jp/park.png

Basically the positions are angled and there is extra room on the end spot. The top line is a wall (part of the parking structure) and the right line is a partition which isn't very tall (just a few inches).

Parking like that doesn't take up an extra spot and it keeps my car far away from the other cars that park next to me (I can open my door all the way without hitting them so that is generally the case with them as well.

I was actually pissed because I got a nasty gram from the building about 'parking outside of the lines' or some crap. Its really ridiculous as that is obviously meant for people who end up taking up two spots or are going into another persons spot but I am just using the extra space that no one can park. I was very annoyed by that.

People who take up two spots annoy me. There is really no valid reason to do that. If you take up two spots far enough back where no-one parks then why even take up two spots in the first place? I have left a note on someones car before because they parked so close to me (when all the other spots were empty) that I could *barely* get into the car but never even bothered with people who are just being ******** and aren't affecting me directly.

bflosabre91 03-21-2011 12:59 PM

i personally wouldn't care too much seeing a 370z double parked, as long as it is pretty nice. i just really hate seeing those huge escalades and hummer double parked. its like, yeah you spent 50k on a giant house on wheels, but your still a total douche. i prob just cut Zs more slack cause i really like them.
