Black Cherry?

I just bought a black cherry 370z and now I'm having second thoughts about the color. I'm a 25 year old dude and I'm just not too sure if i like the color anymore. At first I liked that it looks black from far away, but then changes color as you get closer but now its just looking kinda purple, which is def not what i'm going for. What does everyone else think of the black cherry color? Be Honest. Heres a pic.

i like it, i mean it really doesnt matter what we like though. if you really dislike it, trade it in and eat the depreciation loss.

Nele22 03-18-2011 09:16 AM

Just take the hit and trade it for another color.

wheee! 03-18-2011 09:16 AM

Love it... rare and classy

Gets more respect than the silver colours. People are less likely to think you are a punk kid/speed freak in a Black Cherry. My :twocents:

I want a Z 03-18-2011 09:17 AM

I also noticed it looked purple in some light.

BUT - you already own the car, so you will have to live with it.
People telling you to sell it and take a hit, don't have much financial sense
To sell it just because you don't like the color and take a several thousand dollar hit is financially absurd.

wheee! 03-18-2011 09:18 AM

embrace the colour shift....

also absurd to live with a car for the next several years you just spend 30K+ on, only to regret the color every time you look at the car

if you trade it in right away, and dont put extra miles on it, you can either..take a 2-4k hit on a model with the same miles. or take no hit and get a (more) used one....

personally a couple thousand now (on a 30k car) is worth me liking the car for the rest of my ownership.

Red__Zed 03-18-2011 09:28 AM

It's a pretty cool looking color IMO. I think it could probably use a bit more red or black in the paint, but it's not a bad color.

I heard it will clash if you try to put in a pink interior though.

Econ 03-18-2011 09:29 AM

you could always vinyl wrap it down the road too..

might actually be cheaper than taking a depreciation loss, and you would have a unique color...

bflosabre91 03-18-2011 09:41 AM

thanks for the input. i don't hate the color, i guess i just don't love it. i thought i would like it more because of the uniqueness but idk. I guess ill see what the wife says and hopefully she doesnt freak out, but im sure she will say a swear word

kielbasa16 03-18-2011 09:46 AM

I vote for sticking with it too. Might not be a fan favorite for your typical 25 year old, but thats all the more reason to be proud of it. If it were me, Id add some tasteful exterior mods. I also concur that for a 25 year old it just doesnt make financial sense to take the hit on it.

it all depends on your financial situation i suppose.

shadoquad 03-18-2011 09:50 AM

I love Black Cherry! imo it's the best, but I'm naturally biased. I can't get enough of how this car looks in different ambient lighting.

I disagree - it's not a financially sound decision.
You going to lose $4,000 then buy a new car that will be worth $3-4,000 less then you just paid for it as soon as you drive it off the lot.
It may make emotional sense, but not financial sense

The b*tch of it is, that a re-spray in a new color would also cost that, if not more.

bflosabre91 03-18-2011 11:17 AM

well this might be a complete noob question (this is my first MT car too..) but are there any particular waxes or anything that might help bring out the black more, even if just slightly?

hah no matter how much you wax your car, your not going to take the cherry part out...

kielbasa16 03-18-2011 11:29 AM

My brother had the maroon colored Dodge Stealth and if anything, washing it brings out the red/purplish color more. Probably because youre washing off the dust and crap that settles on the car when its dirty that made it look a littler darker.

Vegitto-kun 03-18-2011 11:29 AM

I don't like the color. the moment I saw the black cherry roadster at a car show I went "bleeeh"

looks more of a color for a woman to be honest.

bflosabre91 03-18-2011 12:31 PM

haha, i wanted to hear the brutal honesty. i'm sure im going to keep it for at least this summer. but who knows, maybe it will grow on me the more i drive it. i've only had it for 4 days.

check this thread out...it has pictures of an amuse body kit (cherry Z)

it looks amazing. might change your mind a little.

also, come to meets and stuff, you mihgt like it more next some other colors.

shadoquad 03-18-2011 12:42 PM

Sabre, click the link in my signature and look through the pix I took in the first year. Looks like we have the same car, more or less. You can see a variety of pix of the car in different weather conditions, and day and night. I don't know if it helps, but it's worth a look.

Hugoneus 03-18-2011 12:42 PM

I have the cherry black color. At this point I have seen all the colors in person and I like the cherry black one the most. I have received a few complements about the color already.

gatorfast 03-18-2011 12:54 PM

Def my least favorite color. Seems like it would cater to an older demographic rather than younger.

I haven't necessarily noticed that trend myself, but I respect your opinion.

To the OP, you wanted an honest response, so here it is. I am male, married, and am in the 30's. I am in the same boat as the posters above, particularly Vegitto. On purchase day, I was literally on the fence between a BC roadster and my PW coupe. The deals going on at that time were too good to pass up for the roadster. I love black, and now white (obviously), but I thought BC would be something "cool" and "new".

However, after a few days of visiting the dealership alone to look at the color in person, and after looking at it over and over and over again and conversing with some of the customers (and my wife) during purchase day, we all agreed that the BC color was geared more towards:

a) older people (i.e. more so men in their pre-retirement or retirement age of 50-55 or so)

b) females

Now, true, these are "stereotypes" of course, just based on opinion, but I didn't feel comfortable owning and driving a car everyday if people would view me as being in one of the above categories. I think it's a gorgeous color personally, but I didn't want people to judge me for that. Because as much as we don't want to admit it, we LOVE it when people oogle and give us compliments on our ride.

So I chose PW instead, and am EXTREMELY happy with my decision. Had there been a black, red, blue, or white roadster that day, I probably may have been driving a roadster today :)

Goodluck with your decision OP... my recommendation, keep it... it is what it is. Not worth the financial risk at this time, or more so your marriage (I would assume your wife would flip out if you brought this up to her... even the thought of it).

Xan 03-18-2011 01:15 PM

I actually like the color, but didn't want it because it was to similar to my 2006 interlagos fire 350.

Give it a good detail and put some Souveran wax on it, step back and I'm sure you'll love it!

ugh, you worry too much about what people think. I get compliments on my car all the time, from people young and old.

Also, I have only seen one female Black Cherry owner. The rest of us are dudes.

bflosabre91 03-18-2011 01:24 PM

@FromG2Z i went back and forth too between black and BC. i drove past a BC 370z for like 3 months everyday on my way to work and i fell in love w it before i got close to it, and it was winter. So i think i had it in my mind that it was more black than cherry and the cherry is just a little extra uniqueness which is what i wanted cause the blue wasn't available anywhere around here anytime soon. But now actually being up close to it more, the cherry sticks out much more than i thought it would from the beginning. ill prob just see what my wife says tonight, deal with her call me an idiot for 10 mins or so and then be done with it and enjoy it.

I do like that kit on the BC 370, but i def dont have the know how to do stuff like that and i probably would rather upgrade the sound first :D

subtle accents really help the appearance of these cars as well...you can throw some carbon fiber on it, tint it, powder the rims....possibilities are endless...the color will grow on you.

b1adesofcha0s 03-18-2011 01:40 PM

Someone else already mentioned it but you can get It wrapped in vinyl for around $2k I think. This would allow you you to get any color you want. If money was no problem for me, I would get the amuse kit and wrap it in a flat black/gray vinyl to give it a kind of batmobile look.

Yup was definitely thinking of the Reventon look. One of the best looking cars ever IMO. I don't want to do anything too permanent to my car like a body kit. Otherwise I would have done the amuse w/ Reventon gray wrap. If you can do it that would be awesome, I would definitely have to come check it out in person

Shado... don't get me wrong, I like the BC color. But in the end, it's all personal taste and preference. I just happen to like white and black more :) Also, my wife's opinion also takes precedence... haha.

Like you said, you've only owned it for 4 days, so maybe you're just getting used to it. I've never owned a white car, more so a pearl white color... so I am still getting used to her. I especially enjoy the fact that I can drive her for more than a week's worth of dust layers, and not notice a significant degradation in gloss or shine. It still "glows" in the sun. I couldn't say the same thing for my other black cars... I'd get her all detailed, then go for a drive and once back, the layer of dust is already visually apparent... then I'd have to worry about additional swirls induced from dusting or QD'ing... arggg. Anyways, I think I am falling in love with the pearl white color more and more everyday :) You might feel the same way for your BC. Give it a chance!

After a couple of days driving in different lighting conditions, you will start to see that you bought a car with several different colours in it. At night, it is black for all intents and purposes and in the day it is more cherry. Twilight and it glows a warm brown/burgundy.
A blue car will always look blue or dirty blue....

(no offense Tony...!)

Jordo! 03-18-2011 04:21 PM

I think it's an either love it or hate it color.

Unless you hate it, learn to love it -- you've got a brand new Z. Enjoy it.

kree 03-18-2011 07:38 PM

The first 370 I actually saw in person on a dealer lot was the black cherry color. It was the only one they had and I was unimpressed. At another dealer I saw blue and silver and both were amazing compared to the BC. When the sun was out the blue was omg. I ended up with silver though. Just my opinion anyways... For the age/color discussion, I was 35 when I bought my Z.
