Arc 03-18-2011 07:44 PM

I went to the Twin Cities Auto Show this past Wednesday and saw a black cherry 370Z at the Nissan floor and it was beautiful.
Now the lighting on their show floor was slightly dim so the black cherry 370Z color was really not as striking in low light. Anyway, I was too busy looking at the car to be impacted by the color. :p

Besides the color stereotype, black cherry does look kind of maroon which I have come to dislike.
Story: I had driven a maroon '92 Camry jalopy for a couple of years and when I was finally able to get rid of it, I was forced to give into a maroon '04 Sienna because the person who I was going to share the vehicle with didn't like grey or tan, they didn't even like black or white, talk about being a partypooper.
We originally wanted blue, but the dealer didn't have that color.
Not getting the color you want still irks me to this day which is why I was going to get it "right" this time when I get my own car.

SkyZ 03-18-2011 07:49 PM

its really a love it or hate it color. very unique. I love it. reminds of midnight purple on skylines. love midnight purple as well.

sonic370 03-18-2011 08:22 PM

to late now learn to love the car for what it is. hot and sexy.....

but from what i could tell a new set of wheels would help in a big way....

aren't those stock 18's on there know?????????????

Lemers 03-18-2011 09:11 PM

I love the color myself. There is a reason to dislike every color on a Z. Here's mine:

White = delivery vehicle
Red/black = cliche on a sports car
Gray/silver/graphite = too common (every other Z has one of these similar colors)
Yellow/blue = look like Pokemon on the Z

You got the blackcherry for a reason. Maybe it spoke to you more than any other color. Be happy with what you got a quit second guessing yourself.

BC is very difficult to photograph, If the car actually looked the color it does in some pictures
I would agree it's an ugly color. Your probally looking at pictures you took and are thinking the
color is sometimes this dull brownish purple or this ugly purple plum color.
But that is only in badly lit pictures. It's just not a photogenic color.

In person the color pops. It's unique, classy and sexy.
The color changes in the light and the angle you view it at.
At night it's basically black with dark purple undertones,
during the day the black slips under the Metallic Maroon surface.
I get tons of complements on the color.
I personally like having BC and enjoy every time I get in my Z.

You only have the car a few days. Give it some time. I guareente you will love the color.
It's just different, and different can take a bit to digest.

Besides once the 1st hot chick tells you the color is beautiful you'll love it.
-Enjoy

bluelion 03-20-2011 08:20 AM

i too like the BC color cause of it's different tones at different times of day...especially when it's freshly washed on a beautiful day. (like yesterday). although it is a lil purple/maroon/brown it's still a nice color..... i do wish sometimes it was "crimson black" instead of "black cherry". the crimson black on my maxima is more black with hues or crimson/dark red/purple.

rli2bcz 03-20-2011 03:45 PM

It looks nice, but would look better when you put wheels with a fat lip on there!

Highway 03-20-2011 03:55 PM

It looks good, but not sure that I would want to own one.

I agree that the cheapest fix is a car wrap. Go for the Lambo Orange :)

At first I liked that it looks black from far away, but then changes color as you get closer but now its just looking kinda purple, which is def not what i'm going for. What does everyone else think of the black cherry color? Be Honest. Heres a pic.

I prefer red, as I do for every car I buy.

Thoughts

This was an extra cost color like the yellow in 09, when I first saw one at a dealership it looked almost black until you walk up to it then you get some brown/purple/maroon out of it. I campaired it to an older 350Z at Z-Con in Nashville that had a very similar color and in sunlight the older 350Z's hue was a little bit better.

the Galapagos fire that came on the 350z was a pretty sweet color. If they had modeled the BC after that instead, it would be a pretty epic color.

bc, a trad jpn purple

Using a color picker app I found rgb's of
65-38-87 on the lighter pixels, and
50-36-87 on darker.
That's not to say only two colors in this paint, but most noticeable in my sample taken with cam in garage using white led pen light for lighting. Natural light has a much wider spectrum of course so my sample just provisional.

@ Purple - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia you'll find this the closest match: Japanese Purple (Purple (Japanese traditional colors))
(Hex: #4F284B)
(RGB: 79, 40, 75)

In plain language it's a very dark purple but as many comment, it changes a lot; varying from shades of red- a brownish maroon to almost black.

So it's a complex color, heat of red and cool of blue. Historically the 'royal' color due rarity of indigo for its mix. In U.S. it tends to get lumped into a feminine color, as 'royalty' is a deprecated concept, but at least this mix looks very dark most of the time, under overcast skies it smolders nicely, to me it's a sci-fi color.

In a northern climate it provides some energy in drab rainy landscapes, but in bright sun sub-tropics it'll radiate its multiple personality disorder as the sun moves around; don't worry, it'll confuse more than enrage. At least the hatch provides a 'hoody' appearance to the silouette, contributing a punky effect to the car overall.

Yellow, Red, blue, black, and grays naturally work well with light gray aluminums and black tires, but bc contrasts too much in hue and shade; think gunmetal gray with a color conflict.

Main problems are the large silver headlights, taillight reds and silver wheels and door handles. I think this color would do to have gray wheels, not black as that'll contrast too much and purple will leak out all over the road. Silver wheels with some black paint around rivets, or painted wide lip leaving silver ring in there could be ok. I wouldn't want to lose the 23 - 24 lb 19'' wheels though if you'd want those.

Gray out, iow darken, head and tail-lights, window tint too should help.
Handles could be powder coated gray, perhaps with some pattern -lines or patterns- to show some aluminum, shame to hide it all.

Very dark yellow headlight covers, or painted interior of headlights, and dark bronze wheels might work, but would need to match dark tone of color.
Pull or paint N doughnuts.

I have a bc 370; had a mb 350 but found the black a bit dull over time; sure, nice when clean n waxed but flat. White seemed boring, but bc needed a 2nd look to determine what it was on first glance; I liked that ambivalence but as mentioned, bringing the rest of the color components down to a blackened blood tone could get one past the purple haze.

Main thing is to lower the body 7/8'', after that tone down the rest little by little?

PEARLWHITEG 08-05-2012 12:27 AM

that color is dope in my opinion. dark enough to look black and its not super loud. this color really grew on me the more i seen them around on the 350z. i even liked the orange color paint but soon realized that it was a little too loud. you should keep the color, its low key and cool

obito 08-05-2012 03:20 AM

just wrapped it ( worth like 1-2k depend on ur bodyshop) instead of getting rip off by depreciation.

Read T 08-05-2012 09:18 AM

^ Just wrap it

In more black cherry.

So there is twice as much black cherry.

Mt Tam I am 08-05-2012 09:51 AM

It is a perfect color......... if you are gay or a woman. :stirthepot: :nutswinger:

Just kidding, the color is fine. It is a lot like black as far as care, cleaning and heat absorption, but how can you listen to anyone else about a color. Either you like it or change it. Unless my joke hits home, who cares about our opinion, a bunch of guys, go take it to some women and ask them if they like it.

kcquinn49 08-05-2012 10:20 AM

It would have been my choice, but I didn't want to wait. So I got the magnetic black.
Black Cherry is cool.

After driving a Black Cherry Z for a couple of years now, I am of the firm belief that Nissan should change the name to Brown Sugar.

I also know a UPS driver that is really jealous.

Yep, thinking of trading in too.:tiphat:

I was pressured into buying a black cherry by the dealer but decided firmly against it, the color just can't decide what it wants to be :icon17: and imo its a :supergay::superghey: color :bowrofl:

ddot196 08-05-2012 11:55 AM

Yea not a big fan of that color. Doesn't do it for me.

In certain lighting my BC ends up looking like this, and I am sooo glad I have it. Very glad I didn't get a flashy color as I think it just screams "ricer" or "pull me over"

I was interested in this color until I saw it in person at the dealership. They had the car inside and as I was walking around it with my pops, we both looked at each other and at the same time said it looks more like turd brown. Now I've seen the car in natural day light numerous times and it looks okay, not turd brown, but not my cup of tea still. If I was going to pick one of the "specialty" colors chicane yellow would have to be it.

Mannysrt8 08-05-2012 01:41 PM

I almost bought one...2011 black cherry with the orange interior...i decided to go with a 2010 black on black for the same price..color is the most important to me....i would just vinyl wrap the car for 2K and call it a day.

Terrace 08-05-2012 02:46 PM

Up here in Canada we don't have black cherry, we have black rose.
I wonder why the difference but I like the color anyways.

Darryl79 08-05-2012 03:09 PM

Wow, this is an old thread but I'll bite.

I traded in my MB Coupe for my current BC Roadster. I got the same complaints from guys a lot younger then me, saying it was a chick color, or it's sky blue...wtf?
This color does not photograph for sure. You walk up close to it, and it kind of changes color on you, but in a good way. I don't think it shows the dirt as bad as the other colors do personally.

wheee! 08-05-2012 05:04 PM

lol... the dirt shows.... my daily fight trying to keep this colour clean! I bought the car for my wife, but it's mine now lol. I like the colour. People always comment on how they thought it was black until they got a closer look. Very rare to see these IMHO.
Good choice! My buddy bought a roadster too. Here they are together for a sleepover while I installed new breathing mods for him....

I considered black cherry until I saw it in person. My wife said "Is that it?" in that tone the expressed her opinion without saying it.

danegrey 08-05-2012 05:55 PM

black cherry for me, like the way it changes color based on the light, get lots of comments on the color.... Never thought of another color....

It's the same color, just a different name. In Australia, the hue is referred to as "Bordeaux"

I like it now. I got new rims and that made a world of a difference for me, coming from the base, non sports package rims. I just hit 4k miles and probably spend more time washing and cleaning it because of how the color shows every little imperfection. I do think the color looks pretty awesome on a nice cloudy day.

dmhenderson 08-06-2012 09:15 AM

I desperately wanted a nismo in black cherry and it wasn't an option. Still don't understand why Nissan doesn't offer more colors but oh well.

The color looks fantastic when it's polished/glazed. Looks almost black until you're on top of it. A guy in my car club has a roadster (first one I had seen) and I was really impressed.

I agree you can find a reason to hate all of the colors if you want to. I like black and I look at Black Cherry as "black, with a little something extra."

Case in point: I think that magma red is hideous. The midnight blue metallic is pretty though. Saw one at the dealership the other day.
