37Z vs Mustang 5.0

Since my STi got totaled I'm in the hunt for a new car. I've wanted the 370 since it first came out. The problem is that I've got a wife and 2 kids. The wife is saying get whatever I want but deep down I think she wants me to get something with a back seat. I've got a 370Z Touring Sport Package on hold that I can get VPP pricing on so great deal, and I"m looking at the 2012 Mustang GT 5.0. I've seen some discussion on that car or someone talking about it, what do you guys think. I've got about 2 days to decide for sure.

So many threads on this ...

b1adesofcha0s 03-15-2011 08:47 PM

Test drive both and see which you like better. You can read people's opinions online all you want, but the best thing to do is experience driving both cars yourself. You might even like the Mustang 5.0 better than the Z after driving it, there are some people on this forum who have switched over. In that case it would be a win-win for you

Red__Zed 03-15-2011 09:03 PM

It's up to what you prefer. IMO, the only thing the Z has on the Mustang is exclusivity looks.
They are totally different cars, in terms of feel and practicality.

If all it has is looks, why do you own a Z and not a Mustang? :stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot::s tirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot::sti rthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot:

I'm telling you this because your married, plus two kids. Buy the Mustang! You'll be better off in so many, many ways buying the Mustang.

5.0 with kids in the back? Death trap.

Camaro SS over the 5.0 Mustang

Funny part is, most would suggest the mustang.

Cyberium 03-15-2011 11:00 PM

Well, I for one wouldn't mind him buying a mustang... I mean the less people who own 370z's the better... it's more exclusive that way :)

Plus if kids are a factor, then it's probably a no brainer.

Buy a mini-van.

Dreezy562 03-15-2011 11:10 PM

just get a mustang because if you get a z im pretty sure you will start a thread about road noise and oil temperatures.

If you only look at performance, then yes. If you put looks and exclusivity (:roflpuke2:) into the equation, it might not necessarily be the case. A lit of people don't like the mustang look or the fact that there are so many of them on the road. I only liked the look of the 5.0 after I saw Steve's car in person. The Z still looks a lot better IMO.

People that care about looks foremost in a car are a breed I don't really understand. I tried to do it with the Z, but it's really not for me.

Buy a mini-van.

I see this a lot, and let me explain why it's bunk.

The 370Z is in no way limited edition at this point.
The more people that own them, the more dealerships are used to working on them/servicing them.
The more people that own them, the easier/cheaper parts are to find for them.
The more people that own them, the more chance of finding clubs in your area.

Since they are already saturated on the market (i.e., rotting on the lots), there is no "exclusivity" factor what-so-ever. Every Nissan dealership I see has a row of them off to the side.

____________

Buy the 5.0 BOSS if you want performance, it stomps the 370Z in every way possible regarding performance. If you want looks, that's subjective. If you want the nicest interior, buy the 370Z.

TongMan 03-15-2011 11:35 PM

Is the car for you personally or for your family? If it's your toy car buy whichever you'd like. If it's going to be a family hauler, I wouldn't choose either.

The new Mustang beats the Camaro in literally every performance category. Not to mention the Camaro also has one of the worst interiors in it's class. No way I'd take the Camaro over either the Z or Mustang.

Nissan, WAKE UP.
Give us some ACTUAL UPGRADES instead of stickers. :shakes head:

Why is that the competition is getting upgrades and Nissan isn't.

dang370z 03-16-2011 04:06 AM

:icon18: seriously.... the 370z only been out for 3 years now, if they are doing any changes it will be in the up coming year.

But I like the way the Camaro front looks better then the stang.. other then that yea Mustang wins in about everything else other then price.

If its a toy car / weekend car then grab which ever one you like. If its your DD/personal then I wouldn't recommend the Z since you do have kids.

The problem is that the 370Z was designed to compete with the cars that were out when it was being designed instead of the cars that would be out after it came out. That's just the way I see it, but it was made to compete with the '05 mustang GT, RX8, and EVO8. It beats them all soundly. Good job. Now it's time to beat the contemporaries.

jaedub 03-16-2011 05:03 AM

Theres no way you can have more fun in mustang than 370z. 370z is hella fun car to drive hands down. 370z is a sports car. 5.0 is all out muscle/torque. It'll beat the 5.0 on track no problem. Ofcourse the 5.0 will beat 370z in straight. There are plethora of differences.

But wanna know my honest opinion?

I really think you shouldnt get neither of these 2 great cars. No 370z....why? cuz you got kids. No mustang....why? its a horrible family car that has 2 doors (rear seat being cramped....not a pleasant ride for the kids)

I really suggest something like 4 door g37s sedan or mercedes C or E class, Audi A4, etc... They might be a bit more than 370z or mustang but i think its a better deal. Because I think youre looking for a affordable, sporty, good looking, and practical car for you and your family.

I really want you to get 370z because its a great car and i really think its a better car than the 5.0. But the honest answer is LOOK FOR A SEDAN

I see TONS of Mustangs and Camaros in my town, that's one of the main reasons I'm getting a 370z, plus, hands down, it's a MUCH cooler car. The reason I even thought of a Mustang/Camaro was the V8 sound.

DrEvil 03-16-2011 08:07 AM

If kids and a wife are in the equasion, get a Volvo wagon. No such thing as travelling light with kids. Besides you'll need the space to keep 'em separated.:stirthepot:

:bowrofl:

The Mustang 5.0 is a lot faster than the 370 on track. It will walk away from a 370 on a road course given equally skilled drivers.

The only thing I agree with you on is that the 5.0 is not a good family car. Yes, it has back seats, but it's in no way a feasible family car. A quick, sporty sedan would be a much better choice.

If it's not going to be your primary "hauling the kids around" car then it's fine, but anything other than some quick trips it's really not that great.

When considering a car for myself, the top 3 criteria are price, performance, and looks. All three have to be good for me to buy it. I wouldn't want to get a car that has only 2. I wouldn't be able to stand getting a car that I thought didn't look good, I would hate looking at it. It's a good thing most high performance cars look good anyway :roflpuke2:

Some people don't care about having all out best performance in their car because that's only really useful if you're going to track it. In that case, looks, status, and comfort become bigger deciding factors.

What about the new STI Sedan??? As for the Z it has like what 82hp less then the 5.0 and it still is just as fast to 60 and not that far off the quarter (except for a couple of those like 12.2 11.9 BS "stock" quarter mile runs I have see on youtube") IDK???
