Any regrets on choice of transmission

This is not meant as a poll just a quick answer........
I had a 05 350 with 6 MT
I now have a 09 with 7AT.
If you bought the AT and once had the MT do you ever miss the MT?

I would have to say yes there are plenty of times when i wish for the MT
mainly when i won't or need more control of the car....

Driving the AT between 0to50 can get boring. imho

You have opened a can of worms here. I had a 2004 350 6mt and now have a 09 370 7at.

I WAY prefer the 7at and have just as much control as an mt just by shifting into manual mode. My line pressures are bumped up through osiris and I am happy.

If you have canyons the AT in manual mode does the trick but no way in hell im I going to buy a AT sportscar where I live.

I prefer AT over MT on lux sedans cruising at night though. Enjoy city lights, smooth jazz, and just sitback. :)

Nope. You should have polled this one, mate!

Blue370tt 03-05-2011 07:44 PM

Neither of you have had or do have the 7at......so how can you offer a valid opinion?

Just sayin.........

I love to have a manual trans but with all the traffic in Atlanta there was no way I was going to buy anything but 7at.

MT for life (well at least on a sports car) As much as the 7at is cool you still have a massive torque converter going around and around in there and it will never have that direct feeling of a stick. Not trying to start sh*t but the auto was only put into cars like vetts Z's and other sports cars for women. (not saying women cant drive stick, my mom taught me)

I'm pretty sure you're going to get nothing but strong opinions, sonic. The "I will NEVER get a sports car with an AT" crowd is fairly stubborn, myself included. I wouldn't even test drive a car with one.

I won't try to speak for others, but I realize I am becoming a bit of a dinosaur on this issue. Ferrari, Porsche, and even Nissan don't offer MT on some sports cars because they don't maximize performance.

I also realize Nissan could not appeal to the range of enthusiasts without offering an AT. They know we aren't all tracking the car, and some of us suffer through stop and go city traffic everyday.

So, to each their own :tiphat:, even though MT is way better, and my Z could beat up your Z :stirthepot:
;)

no regrets. some people like to shift and some people don't like to shift. i like to shift.

The AT in the cars you mentioned are alot different then the one in the Z correct? As much as I would rather get the new GTR in a good old 6spd even if it ment a few ticks slower but the only way it comes is with the flappy pedal tranny.

I am very happy with my 6MT and would have it no other way. Here are the reasons behind why I prefer a manual transmission:

-Much more direct in feel both in power delivery and drivability
-Can handle more power reliably
-Suit the character of the Z
-Provides a level of driver involvement I believe an AT can never replicate

The 6MT in the 370z is not the most refined gear box but I love it, however I have to say the 7AT is very good at what it does.
