not enough space on the 370 to do that. i remember those saturns though. i learned how to drive on one. clutch was so forgiving even though i kept mashing gears haha.

don't think you'll ever see a Z with a 3rd door, it's just against the whole nature of the Z imo.

i do agree we should at least get the rear fog lamp standard, and access to some of the cooler parts japan gets. seems weird we get cut out of almost all of the stylizing parts.

my decision would also hinge on what else is available on the market. honestly, if the subie'd FT-86 were available and i had to choose, i'd give bot hthe Z and the subie a good run out and see which one i liked more.

Best statement in this thread yet (other than you wanting to affix your Amuse rear wing to the front of your 370Z). In all honesty, my wife and I would have purchased a Lotus Evora, but it was not out when we purchased the 370Z.

BLM 03-04-2011 12:19 PM

Absolutely. Anything else that performs remotely close to the Z will cose at least $10k more. IMO it's a porsche on a budget. Looks like it (somewhat), has the road noise and simple interior/gauge package/centered tach to go with it. A Cayman-S is still a hair better around a track but it's also nearly twice the pricetag. Some coilovers and brake lines/pads would make them equal (even though a stock Z pulls a 0.99 G skidpad).

I love the car 100%. And I can't speak for the tall guys, but as a weightlifter with a 50" chest I still fit just fine in the seats. Can't fit in a real recaro or Bride but these are fine. If you're over 6'3" or so you may have to customize the seat.

OldGuy 03-04-2011 12:22 PM

Fifty-fifty here. Z's an excellent value and has beautiful styling and exclusivity but the lousy condition of the roads around here emphasize her harsh ride and road noise, This take's much of the joy out of driving her. Also the thin, delicate paint on this not inexpensive car angers me. For those reasons, it's a close call. I might go with the new Mustang instead.

I'm in NJ and the roads here are also awful and it's a chore to commute even on the highway leaving enough space in between myself and the car in front of me so I can see any potholes coming. But that's the piece of crap climate and lazy public works fault, not the car. Also, if I had the $$ I'd spend some money on a used beater for a DD.

I just don't see the comparison between a Z and a Mustang though. For me the Z is the perfect sport car design. Small-ish, light, short wheel-base, relatively high reving 6 speed with remarkable handling and great OEM equipment (sport model). Unless you really work the suspensions the mustangs will really only be for cruising and straight line fun (the lower end models, not GT500).

mark_taba85 03-04-2011 12:26 PM

I don't have one yet.

The rising gas prices is pushing me away but I am still in love with it and would use it as a DD :)

While you're certainly right that the lousy roads are not the car's fault, they are where my car has "live" and it sure detracts from the fun of driving the Z when there is a harsh boom every 10 yards as you drive over every disjointed road seam. Maybe when I replace the stock tires, the new ones will make a difference.

I hear the RE-11's are much better in terms of road noise and perform just as well. In Jersey there are potholes so large and so deep in the middle lane of highways that if you hit it at speed you could easily lose control of the car. Often makes me wonder where's the best place to live for performance driving. Cali has the best weather and roads, but horrible smog testing. The south is too hot in the summer and hinders performance, north-east is awful...I guess i'd take Cali and go through the BS of swapping stock parts back in when I service the car.

I've been out to Cali a few times the roads looked pristine. Maybe the city roads arent as good. But it's hard to get huge potholes all over the place without ice.

PapoZalsa 03-04-2011 02:19 PM

YES, but probably white or red. Maybe a NISMO

Hate to tell you, BUT this is all changing as the state, counties, and cities lapse into funding shortfalls. Potholes do get fixed, but they take longer to do so. We don't have as much construction so the gravel haulers are not as abundant as in the bubble-building days. However, they've been replaced by haulers that look as if they were revived from the salvage yards; most of these dump more gravel on the road than they do the construction site. Add to that our more-than-allocated sh!tty drivers, and things are changing.

racerxj17 03-04-2011 02:21 PM

No..... I wouldn't. I never got attached like I have to previous cars, and the prActicality has becoming a regular issue.

Where in Jersey are you?

They really aren't that bad here.

Hell, if you go to 55 or the AC Expressway, those roads are basically perfect.

Live in North Jersey and work in central Jersey. I commute about 50 miles each way on 287 daily. Some stretches way up north above I-80 are concrete and those are pristine.

I got a Nismo and hands down I have to say after a year and a half - absolutely. :tiphat:

Gunzero 03-05-2011 05:58 AM

Lol cali roads suck.. Texas has some of the best roads :) the big cities here are so well mentained. Houston is an exception though haha it's ugly there.
Anyways, cops here don't care if you mod the car at all. There's like 10 muscle cars running around with open headers haha

SPOHN 03-05-2011 08:49 AM

Roads here in GA are always in good shape. Even in the rural areas. Can't be happier there.

To answer the original question, yes I would buy the Z again and again.

red6spd 03-05-2011 09:00 AM

If god forbid the car get wrecked or something tomorrow I would get it again. But if something like that happen years down the road I would probably get the new STI Sedan.

themann1984 03-05-2011 11:04 AM

Yes!!!

The Z is pure sex! It is hot, loud, and rough!

Doug&Michelle 03-05-2011 11:41 AM

I would for sure buy it again. I've had a '84 Fiero, '69 Charger, '02 IS300, '07 Civic SI Coupe, and now the Z. The Z is by far my overall favorite car I have ever owned.

I agree usually good quality roads. Plus where Im at if it hits 32 people start throwing on huge parkas. Though the road I live off of they are going to 4 lane and just started....just in time for the Z. I guess the Z71 will be doing the DD on rainy muddy days.

AllForTheCash 03-05-2011 12:12 PM

I would have to say No. But it is a great car and I do enjoy it.

I do wish the 40th came with the Navigation option! I would have purchased one!

90 ST 03-05-2011 12:54 PM

i'd say 50/50, more power would have been nice, but i can bolt that on.

MVPTonyD 03-05-2011 01:09 PM

keep the is350!! its a really nice car! my sister has one and its nice and a better dd than a Z.

But YES to your question

wilsonp 03-05-2011 02:14 PM

I don't understand how anyone could buy a Z and then complain about lack of practicality.

Now, I would definitely buy again, though possibly a 2010. A few years from now and I'd be considering a used Cayman S a lot harder, but I don't plan to trade the 370Z that soon.

332 out of the box for $30k is kind of the best out there. In terms of sports cars/sedans I can't think of any under 45k that make this kind of power out of the box.

Indeed. Still don't know Nissan's reasoning on this one. More exclusivity? :shakes head:

ProfessorDave 03-05-2011 03:26 PM

When the 350Z came out I wanted one. But my kids were still young (too young to drive themselves in their own cars) so I needed 4 seats. I bought an RX-8 instead, then a MINI Cooper, and then a Mazda3 HB (my current DD).

I bought the 370Z as soon as I could afford to. I chose slightly used so I didn't have to wait to save more for a new one.

I would do it again, at least right now. Nothing else out there really gets me excited (well, nothing I can afford anyway!).

Sorry for the double post, but I just wanted to ask themann how many of his 24 post say exactly that? :icon17:

Cmike2780 03-05-2011 04:26 PM

Yes. I'd buy a second one if I could afford it.

The new Mustang 5.0 has 412 for around the same price as the Z. I would say that is the best overall performance value out there, but I still prefer the Z myself for other reasons.

Jordo! 03-05-2011 05:17 PM

Aye.

hdskull 03-05-2011 05:39 PM

I would've waited a couple of months and gotten a different color with all the options.

Could do with a couple of extra seats though.

Only the roads in Irvine are nice. HUGE potholes in SD/LA.

rebe945 03-05-2011 05:51 PM

buy Z again

yes, absolutely. If they modify the body style in 2013 ,i'd consider trading it in for the new style, also. :iagree::iagree:

SophiaZ 03-05-2011 05:53 PM

Id buy the Z again.... Oh wait.... I already did that bwahaha

Zxces50 03-05-2011 06:29 PM

Absolutely do it again. DD 2yrs 24K look forward to everytime I get in. Plus track days. :)

sonic370 03-05-2011 07:24 PM

the question i think was would i buy a 370 again.
if i understand it then my answer would be no........

only because iv'e owned a 350 and now a 370........ and loved them both......
might consider it if nissan does a complete body change and goes with a TT
or v8 which ain't happening.... since timing is everything and i plan on trading
in about 2 years we will see......... the only thing i miss is the sound of a big block v8. but it won't be no mustang or camaro....... i know there are vette haters here just saying..................

mick 03-05-2011 08:17 PM

i wanted a car that looked like a gt3 race car (straight out from the factory). for the price range, only the 370z nismo matched what i wanted. i could go higher like an exige but it was too small and the porsche 911 gt3 was too pricey. i would make the same decision today because it is still the only car that would match my criteria.
