My rates on a new Z06 with sick covereage, 25/m/single, are still better than OP is paying for his 370Z. He's getting screwed HARD!

Yeah, I was with State Farm until they told me they wanted $242/mo and their policy wasn't near as good as Allstate's.

I could have only paid $142 a month if I didn't want accident forgiveness or free 3-year new car replacement.

Maybe you owe your local Allstate agent a phone call. State Farm is a good company, but so is Allstate, and they are a LOT cheaper on sports cars. I paid more for my old trans am with State Farm than I am this new Z06 with Allstate.

The rate for my daily driver (G20) was only a few bucks difference between Allstate and Statefarm, fwiw.

Insurance ratemaking 101:

Imagine a piece of paper floating in the air at an angle with the lowest point in a corner. Let the x and y axis represent two variables. Lets say credit score and driver age. As your credit improves the paper decreases in height. As your age increases the paper decreases in height. The height of the paper at a particular point represents how much you pay in premium based on these two variables.

Your rates (height of the paper) can change for any or all of the following 3 reasons:
1. The paper stays the same shape but raises in height off the ground.
2. The paper stays the same height on average but the shape of the paper changes. Perhaps it becomes steeper or it is made wavy or something.
3. The paper stays the same height and shape but your location on it changes.

Insurance rates are like this but they use something more like 20 to 30 variables. If you can visualize a 30 dimensional plane let me know. Every company has their own paper that can be completely different than the others. Thus, the only thing you can do is shop around and compare rates.

And making comparisons between other people is kind of meaningless. The reason being is that you know nothing about their company's piece of paper and where you would be placed relative to them.

I love Origami

600.00 for a 6 month policy allstate.

It stands to reason that if more 370z's are crashed by morons then the insurance premiums are going to go up. This is how insurance companies work. Risk analysis. So to the op...the morons are out there and this thread will make no difference, unfortunately.

Funny because last year my rate was:

$1200 for one year.

I just renewed last week and the rate was:

$1000.

I have AAA.

I have a 2010 370z,2004 Honda civic,1994 Acura legend and they all have full coverage thru Allstate and I pay $148.00 a month.

Why the **** is your 6 month policy that high to begin with? Even 1200/6 is ridiculous.

Rates are based on where you garage it, crime stats, etc per that zip code. Maybe he lives in a shitty area.

i live in a rather wealthy long island neighborhood...my car is garaged as well....and you can look at all the **** rates i received as well.

im 21/m/single live on long island, have a nice job, etc... they all told me they dont care because I'm 21 and have a sport car, and they "know how we drive"

I'm 27 In NY not the cleanest driving record but not the worst and my premium with all state it 860 for 6 months. 500 deductible , million in liability, inj, etc ...

What company do you have?

SmoothZ 03-03-2011 07:47 PM

The "25" years old myth is really based on the fact that everyone supposedly gets a license at 16 and drives for 9 years before they get a discount. Other discounts include home owners, life, and multiple car insurance. I have all of those including law enforcement discounts.

I'm with Geico, and they were the cheapest by about $1000

what i found interesting waas that a camaro SS was cheaper to insure

specZ 03-03-2011 07:53 PM

Its good to see my rates weren't the only ones increased for absolutely no reason other than the one OP stated.

KaienZ34 03-03-2011 07:56 PM

Before i got the Z i was looking at an 09 vette, it was only $8.00 bucks more then what i'm paying for the Z now.

When I take the Z out of storage, we pay about $1200/6months for full coverage which includes rental insurance and gap insurance. That's for 2 cars, though.
