370Z: Daily Driver or Weekend Car?

What's your primary use of the 370Z?

Brazilbro 04-04-2009 07:07 PM

crbn_fbr 04-04-2009 07:57 PM

3SeventyZ 04-04-2009 08:48 PM

Daily driver

Outrun 04-04-2009 08:58 PM

This will be a when I get home from work/weekend driver. Don't plan on racing it though.

StLRedrider 04-04-2009 09:10 PM

This won't be my everyday driver, i still won't see the car till mid may. Long wait, i think it will be worth it.

spearfish25 04-04-2009 10:07 PM

Drove mine home in a steady rain the other night....it was fine. What's the big deal? Now the snow forcasted for Monday is what has me worried. No one has the measurements for which rims and snow tires I can replace my 19"s with...

frost 04-04-2009 11:16 PM

It doesn't rain or snow here, so there's no reason for it to be a garage queen.

MightyBobo 04-05-2009 12:48 AM

Daily's an 08 Silverado :)

agreed, I love living here.

halrms 04-05-2009 05:44 PM

I have the Z for 2 months now with about 800 miles.......you guess.

bluzman 04-05-2009 06:44 PM

Had it 11 weeks and it has ~5,600 miles on the odometer. I guess that means it's my daily driver.

Brazilbro 04-05-2009 07:59 PM

wow 5600 you might be the mile king here on the forum

Musashi 04-05-2009 08:45 PM

The Z is my beater.

zylont 04-05-2009 08:50 PM

Daily driver!

OnCallZ 04-05-2009 09:00 PM

If my head math is right, that's like, 72 miles a day

AndreZ Cadena 04-05-2009 10:03 PM

Daily driver, and it sees rain.

Darkaeon 04-05-2009 10:08 PM

Two weeks tomorrow and Im at 873 miles!!! But in my defense I did put the majority of those on it in the first week or so to break it in and get ready to take her to the track!

cg370z 04-06-2009 12:41 PM

Daily Driver... I have 50 mile commute to work every day of the week, so that's 100 miles a day. I've had it exactly one week, and I have 600 miles on it so far.

tvfreakazoid 04-06-2009 02:33 PM

When i get mine i'm going to beat it up. To hell with breaking it in. Cars are meant to beat on and of course make sure to do your regular maintenance.

I'm working away from home so actually it's about 175 miles on Monday and Friday, local travel near work site mid-week, and little or no driving on the weekends (ride the motorcycle instead).

arcticreaver 04-06-2009 10:35 PM

one word -

both

Anatoray 04-06-2009 10:48 PM

The Z is my only car now, and probably will be for some time yet. Thankfully, Louisville never gets too bad for too long. My biggest problem are the people around here. Pedestrians don't seem to understand the concept of red lights and looking before crossing the street.

joeyz10 04-07-2009 12:15 AM

weekend toy....

Forumite 04-07-2009 07:05 AM

Mine went from daily driver (150 miles per) to weekend car about a week after I got it and put on 800 miles.

SiXK 04-07-2009 10:26 AM

Daily driver all the way, at least for a couple of years. To be honest, I have had enough of the days where my Z sits at home while I drive a bunch of no-fun cars - F-150, Maxima, 4-Runner, etc - the 60 miles round trip to work and back. I finally figured the best thing to do was keep a Z at home and drive a Z daily too. 60 miles a day is way too much driving to be in a car you don't enjoy!

It is very possible that one day the 370 will join my Z32TT as a garage queen, but only after I drive her a few years. The 370Z makes me look forward to my commute and thats invaluable!

See was just the opposite for me. Every day I would take it out dreading the commute because of the miles and dings it was sure to get.

That was my reasoning at first too, so I left my fun Z at home and drove other vehicles that I did not give a crap about. Its not a bad plan at all. Keeps the car pristine and makes driving it a recreational activity.

but the downside was, I was spending way more time driving those other cars than my Z. I tried a car, a truck and an SUV, but I had been driving a Z since 1988. My daily ride without a Z was zero fun.

I finally just figured its a car, it may get a ding or some miles but a ding can be fixed and a car can be maintained and do very well as it takes on some miles.

I love my ride home from work, got a couple of spots as I approach my house where I can open it up and I always get home in a great mood.

Of the 5 Zs I have had the 370 is definitely up there with the Z32TT as my favorites. I plan to drive it a few years and retire her to the garage and pick up something else, but I learned my lesson a while ago, whenever I get that new DD it will be a Z or a sportscar for sure.

I just wish I had the money to buy and keep some cars and have a couple of daily drivers too. but don't we all?

tvfreakazoid 04-08-2009 02:56 PM

I know how you feel and i'm the same way. But then what's the point of getting a car like this one? No matter what it's going to happen. hell a car accident may happen. Thats why when I get mine I will have to tell my self these things are going to happen and I can't do anything about it to prevent it.:nutswinger:

I mean just a day or two after I posted how I use it as a daily driver one of the most aggravating things happened.

I work at a 2 story office building with its own large parking lot thats landscaped and private. I have no problem parking all to myself, and I mean no one ever parks anywhere near me. Its a small corp office - about 100 people - and everyone mostly knows everyone. plus, no one wants to walk to where I park. lol.

I am walking out to my car today at lunch and the landscape guys are using blowers. one of them is blowing stuff right under my car, and hes close. He walks around and is blowing stuff under from the other side (exactly WHAT is he trying to accomplish??)

I figure its not worth it to say anything and I approach and get in the car, as I am pulling my sunshade down I hear a crazy noise, and the guy is now blowing the actual car. hes blowing off the hood and top and starts to move around to the doors.

I lost it. I got out of the car and yelled "what the #### are you doing? don't blow the ####ing car. what the #### are you doing??" etc etc etc

so his boss comes over and points to another area and sends him off. I tell the boss its cool but he had no business blowing off the actual car. The boss was very nice and apologetic. I complain to my company person who handles the landscape contracts and she says we get complaints from alot of employees and even if we change landscape companies we still have problems, but she will tell them do NOT do anything to the cars. shes a great lady.

Being a daily driver is tough enough, black is hard to keep clean as it is, but a guy using a blower on the actual car is one of those unexpected things that would never happen to a weekend car. Not enough to make me change to another DD, but was enough to almost give me a heart attack I was so mad.

ChrisSlicks 04-09-2009 02:21 PM

It actually works well for blowing the pollen off your car in the spring as long as you're sucking in clean air :icon17:

But blowing sand and leaves up against your paint is not cool.

At work they did this to my brothers car, he actualy took a photo while he was seething mad

Now due to the type of place where we work, there is ALOT of camera's for every angle being recorded and saved for later playback.

BUt if there was no camera's that dude would be on the ground with his leaf blower dented where it met his skull.

And this is not a really nice paved lot, its a super grainy rocks, peddles, pot hole ridden cheap pavement that has more debri/glass than i care to think.

Zerafian 04-09-2009 06:04 PM

I'd treat it the same as my 04' Z when I baught it....Its economic enough to be a DD..not quite nice enough to be a weekend only car in my eyes at least..unless I put a good amount of money into mods...aka...turbo, zele kit, volks, etc etc.

Steven 10-07-2009 08:01 PM

Is your Z a daily driver?

So lets take a little poll, who here drives their Z car as a daily driver?

frost 10-07-2009 08:01 PM

Shouldn't you have made it a poll?

theDreamer 10-07-2009 08:01 PM

I daily drive my Z.
