IT will be my DD most of the time during the Spring and Summer. But when is raining or going to Lowes or Walmart that is what the DD is for. ;)

Do you user your z as a daily driver?

HI,

I was going to get a non sports car 4 dr sedan, till I saw a 370z upclose. After that I havent even wanted to drive any of the other sedans I was considering test driving.

So my question to you Z owners is... do you use it as a daily driver or a weekend car? I drive into the city (DC) everyday so just curious if anyone else does this and what their experience doing so has been?

Also driving in city means MPG will be around 15 -18?

Thanks,

spitfire9200 06-08-2010 11:49 AM

it's my daily.. but I go into DC too, so I just metro everyday. I don't drive except on the weekends.... I got a hookup on parking so I drive like... 1 mile to park at the station, but that's it. It's a very secluded spot and I don't park near anyone.

I can't believe you would even consider driving your Z into DC. That is car suicide, as well as expensive..

just my .02

Like some members on here, the Z is my only car, and it have been great for me as a daily driver. The ride is very comfortable even on bad streets, I just drove 2 round trips from Sac to SF yesterday, including getting lost in downtown SF, it was not tiring at all (if anything I had a lot of fun lol).

I am getting 16.4 mpg average on local. When I made my road trip down to LA from Sacramento, I was averaging close to 26mpg.

I would say the main draw back of buying one is,

a. you can't carry a lot of luggage, but it does fit a lot more than you think it could.

b. only room for 2, this could be a plus or minus

That is true, when I visited my gf at DC, I noticed some areas the road is very bad. I guess it depends where you are located at. Another thing is some people think there is a lot of road noise.

That, and the drivers there don't give a crap. I've watched people back into/hit people while parking and not leave notes. Seen people swipe cars, seen people lean/sit on cars. Seen people ding the crap out of cars... plus parking is impossible/expensive.

Like I said not trying to be a ****, just my experience!

:tiphat:

The Z is my only car. I use it every day in the DC and Southern MD area. Its awesome. No complaints.

However, work from home when it snows! :)

370z TT 06-08-2010 12:17 PM

I use it everyday, but i also live in New Jersey which is all highways. The z is fine in traffic but it isn't too economical or forgiving in traffic. Driving in NYC gets really interesting in this car and it tends to attract a lot of attention. It's really comfortable for everyday driving, but you will feel every bump in the road and you will need to put the music louder to drown out the road noise. The stock bose is adequate for the car, but it could use some more power and an after-market head unit will fix this. The car is really good stock but everything is modifiable and the ability to track the car, or do some high speed runs on the highway is enjoyable to say the least. The paint is sensitive, but a clear bra will resolve that issue. It will take more pampering and maintainence than other cars but the end result is a lot more rewarding than any sedan you could possibly buy.....unless you have kids

6MT 06-08-2010 12:18 PM

Not a daily driver for me. I commute 110kms everyday and sometimes I take the Z to work. Mostly I drive a Civic (47mpg).

Jeffblue 06-08-2010 12:29 PM

Its my daily driver. It works fine for me. on a daily basis and it is my only car. I wouldn't NOT get it just because it would have to be your daily driver. i think its a perfectly fine DD

If you are considering any sedan with a v6, dont expect to do any better on gas in local driving.

gh0st3794 06-08-2010 01:21 PM

I used to have an 07 Acura TL as my daily and my gsxr-600 as a weekend toy. I ended up trading the TL in on a Z and now am stuck with 2 toys. Obviously the Z wins out as being the more practical of the two so I DD it.

PapoZalsa 06-08-2010 01:29 PM

Mine is not a DD, but get plenty of use on the weekend and sometimes during the week after work.

One of the reason is I don't use it most of the days is the construction all over this damn base.

XwChriswX 06-08-2010 01:30 PM

My Z is my DD and Ive been avging 20.9 mpg after having it for 3 months now, its fine for a DD. Gotta get my first oil change here soon. It's perfect for all my needs, when everyone complains about things, they aren't being realistic.

Not alot of cargo room? - It handles anything I would need on a Normal day. (Hence Daily Driver) When I go to the grocery store, I don't even fill up the 'trunk' space and still have the passenger seat to put stuff. Now if your talking cargo as in I can't put furniture in it, well then this is why I wouldn't take a Z to a furniture shop to pick up furniture... Just common sense here. :ugh2:

import111 06-08-2010 01:34 PM

Mine is my DD and track toy. Does just fine unless I want to go where there is snow or take more than 1 person with me somewhere. 19.5 avg. fuel milage for my mixed driving...but I have a very heavy foot.

NewlyIMPORTed 06-08-2010 01:36 PM

i drive mine everyday

Thanks for your response

Metro ing is how I got away w/out a car for a few months now. I have parking at work, not ideal but can find good spots....
I have driven into the city for the past 3 years now just not in a z like car... I will keep my fingers crossed if I do end up driving in the city..

I upgraded my daily driver from a tC to my Z. Couldn't be happier.

If I didn't have an SUV as a second vehicle, I'd feel a little different of course. I still go grocery shopping, take trips, and even picked up grass seed and fertilizer in my Z!

SiXK 06-09-2010 08:30 AM

My 370Z is my daily driver, 60+ miles per day. 22,000 miles on the car so far.

Its great as a daily driver.

3SeventyZ 06-09-2010 09:33 AM

yep i drive it all the time

yellowZ 06-09-2010 09:33 AM

The Z is my only car, however I also have a motorcycle. As for it being a daily driver - I travel during the week and drive rental cars - so for all intents and purposes its a Friday + Weekend car. Somehow I still rack up the miles. Probably b/c everything is bigger (read further apart) in Texas.

Kev

jayl 06-09-2010 10:32 AM

its awesome to know that so many ppl use the Z as a DD. I had a tC that was totaled 3 years back or I would have been upgrading also!.

pompey 06-09-2010 10:50 AM

i drive my every single day

im assuming youre on the highway. whats your avg mpg?

wolf41779 06-09-2010 02:10 PM

Mine is a DD, wouldnt really have it any other way. I live pretty close to work, so I really dont get to drive her as much as I would like to. And for practicality, I easily fit 200 bucks worth of groceries in the back.

Montez 06-09-2010 02:17 PM

Yep, I just alternate every other day with the Max on the commute. Sometimes I do swap them out once I get home if I need to go some place else although on there supposed day off.

TongMan 06-09-2010 04:26 PM

My Z is my daily driver as well.

JvKintheUSA 06-09-2010 07:11 PM

No - I commute in a used 2006 Saturn Ion. Drive the Z sometimes to work, but only when the weather is dry

sonic370 06-09-2010 07:31 PM

Daily driver 60+ miles daily no issues.

Soygen 06-09-2010 08:55 PM

The Z is my only car, though my work commute is relatively tame. 5.5 miles in medium traffic. Love driving the car to and from work and anywhere else!

m4a1mustang 06-09-2010 09:00 PM

Unfortunately my commute is really beginning to make me look at the Z in a negative light. The last two days I've endured 2+ hour commutes (one way) in severe stop and go traffic. I think if I had a 7AT it'd be fine, but the 6MT is just terrible when you're in gridlock for 2 hours at a time.

If I could make the numbers work I'd probably be in an Audi A5 right now, unfortunately. I love the Z, but with the 6MT it doesn't make a great daily driver in my current situation. If I lived out in the country I'd love it!

Dan37TZ 06-09-2010 09:50 PM

The 370Z was orignally going to be my weekend car but I ended up daily driving it almost everyday.

90 miles round trip each day. Honestly, it's what I look forward to every morning when I wake up and count the minutes till I come home. The hour drive in my 370Z to and back from work. My commute has no traffic, its just a 2 lane semi-curvy road, beautiful scenery, downshifting and hearing that engine rev-match around every curve is the highlight of my day.

The 335i is fantastic car to commute with but with the automatic and paddle shifters, it just doesn't offer any enjoyment in the drive at all.

AK370Z 06-09-2010 09:50 PM

Daily Driver! :driving:

Tronchaser 06-10-2010 08:25 AM

Daily Driver here... although I'm thinking about getting an old beater pickup for the winter time and storing the Z for more harsh winter stuff.

chuckd05 06-10-2010 12:06 PM

its my daily driver but I have a second car in case of snow or when I have to go to the train station and leave the car there...

Anatoray 06-10-2010 12:08 PM

I use mine as my daily driver to and from work, about 38 miles a day as well as roadtrips to visit my parents 400 miles away with no issues whatsoever.

MichaelM 06-10-2010 12:13 PM
