I'd agree with the latter part, but not the former. Get me in a 'Stang 5.0 and let me floor it - the "FUN" will be written all over my kid-like grin when it PULLS from a stop.

I'm not a muscle car guy, but the new pony car is one of the best Ford's done - and they need it. As a company, seems they're gaining some traction.

Agreed. I'm not much of a Mustang fan, but Ford has come a LONG way in quality. I also own a Ford truck and took the new eco-boost truck for a drive. WOW! GREAT truck. I'm thinking of buying a new F150 and my wife wants the new Edge, which is a pretty cool vehicle in its own right. As I said, Ford has made great strides. Plus they didn't take the bail out, nor file bankruptcy afterwards!! Got my loyalty when it comes to something other than my Z. :tiphat:

If the Z does not fit your life style then do the trade.
I've driven the 5.0... Awesome car that is a totally different ride than the Z.
I like them both for different reasons.
It's the Sports car/Muscle car difference you would expect.

I'd take both cars if I could. Hell I might even be conspiring to do so.

but if you can have only one car then the practicality of the cars would come into play
for me. That's why I have a Z.

I don't need no stinking back seats.

But I would like more than 400 HP.

Good luck!

Hey guys, I wandered into a Ford dealership yesterday and ended up test driving a 5.0 Mustang w/ premium package - I came away very impressed. Before I left they offered me a killer deal on the car (I'd be paying about $40 less per month than on my Z). I didn't commit to anything, but I am VERY tempted to make the trade. I'm just curious as to what some of your thoughts are and if anyone else has made a similar trade?

If ur gonna get a mustang? Make a worthy purchase. You can be one of the monotonous plain jane mustang GT's that roll out the assembly line as fast as Mc Donalds makes fries or you can hold out and get a limited production one of thiese...

I am not a fan of the Mustang, but why do people think so much about their 370? It's a sports car, but nothing rare or exotic about it. Both cars still came off an automatic assembly line, it's not like Mr. Yamamoto built the Z himself for us.

Of the big three muscle cars, the Mustang stands out. I live on a winding road where Mustangs (Chally and marrow too) are seen every day holding up traffic. If the twists are important to you, test drive it on some turns before you buy.

Did you not see the post mentioning the Miata doors!?!

Before you know you have a good deal what did you pay for the Z originally? What was finance rate and how much do you owe now? How much are they willing to give you on the trade in?

What is price of the Mustang and what is finance term?

A payment less than your current car doesnt indicate a good deal.

...and its a Ford? Argh

Dreezy562 02-23-2011 12:21 PM

No the z isn't rare or exotic but I still haven't seen another one other than at a meet.

Why do people think a lot about the car they chose to own? Well, if you own one, it means that car won the comparison in your opinion with what was out there at the time.

Some may cite rarity or scarcity, but that has to do with the fact that Mustangs are targeted to sell a lot more in the states, so they will be less scarce, their looks will probably age faster, they will probably show up in all parts of town.

But I personally think a lot of the Z because it's fun, pretty, and inexpensive. Who cares if it's rare or exotic? It's not. It's just a joy to drive, and I'm pretty sure that Mustang owners feel the same about their cars.

Here are some tips I put together so I don't fall into traps during my next car purchase. Hope this is helpful for everyone:

Car Buying: Things to remember when purchasing

Drive the exact car you want. If a dealer doesn’t have the exact car, find one that does.
Ask for a take home test drive (keep the car for an evening). If they don’t allow it, settle for nothing less than a no-salesperson test drive. They can be distracting.
Don’t be bullied or pressured.
DO NOT SHARE DESIRED MONTHLY PAYMENTS or TRADE IN VALUES. Say you’re only looking to discuss purchase price and you want to hear what their trade value is.
The dealing isn’t over when you’re done with the sales person. Finance managers will push extended warranties, paint protection, etc. Also, carefully evaluate their rates. They will add a percentage point to the bank rate or use rates to steer you into other additional charges to make extra money.
Reply to bullying lines with mirrored answers. “This offer ends at the end of the month” gets “My purchase offer ends tonight.” “I have to put food on the table” -> “I have to keep food on the table.” “I have to check with my manager” -> “I have to check with my spouse”. “We’re already losing a lot of money on this deal” -> “I’m already losing a HELL of a lot of money on this deal.” “I have another offer, this car is in high demand” -> “They have this car down the street or I’ll just order one from someone else.”

Sshhhhh.......:icon17:

lol I was at a Nissan dealership, and a salesperson pointed across the sales floor to a couple who had just walked in. He said to me, "They're here to look at the same car you are." I responded with, "Well then, sell it to them. I'm sure Nissan will make more Z's and I'll keep making money."
