Interesting news and I definitely think the rumor has validity. Emission regulations and everything else included, it makes sense. Even with all of that, the class that the 370 competes in seems to be in somewhat of a horsepower war. Going past the 350hp mark for the base, and bumping up against 400 for the Nismo will probably attract more buyers even with a small price increase.

If this is true, I will be a little annoyed and definitely wish I had the DI.

I think that once there are a couple Zs out that have had the VVEL adjusted via GTM and have shown any power increases or not, that will be a good indicator as to whether Nissan would be able to get the Nismo up to 400hp or so.

Instead of a power gain how about making the Z a lighter car? That way the Z will be faster and have better fuel economy.

Maybe 2014. lol...
I'm sure they'll do some mods to the body but not the engine itself.

The 2014 is perfect for upgrade! 2012 is only 3 years gap.

We're not talking about an "all new model". We're talking about a change to the engine that will increase fuel efficiency and also HP. This won't require the years of testing and design and retooling a manufacturing line. If the engine is going to be built for the G coupe then why not put it in the Z too. The only reasons I could think of is price point or supply.

The 350z got a bump in horsepower after only two years, so doing it after three would certainly not be a deterrent for Nissan.

sonic370 01-31-2011 07:47 PM

if the next Z motor is as a big improvement as the current one is over the 350
everything will be fine. we all won't to compare the 370 with the v8 camaro
and 5.0 mustang but imho that's not a fair comparison.

the 370 appeals to select few and always will.
the other two are bloated muscle cars.

They where talking about my mods. Not a TT or SC. I can see having to worry about upgraded brakes/suspension if you boosted it, but not with my mods.

Looks like Some people are expecting miracles from DI. The VQ37 already has a specific output that can compete with the best NA engines out there, including DI engines. 89.7 hp/l for the regular Z and 94.6 for the Nismo. Only Porsche (911) and Ferrari engines have a higher specific output, they also rev a lot higher then our VQ. Even the Cayman S "only" makes 94.1 hp/l with DI

so a DI 370Z would make it that much better! not expecting miracals, but DI for OURS cars is gonna be a very good thing

Junior370z 01-31-2011 09:00 PM

I think regardless it being a nismo or base the power output will be pretty close like they are now. Nothing against nismos, but nismos is not much of an upgrade from a sport.

Its also nice to add parts that look nice (CBE) and make the car stand out in the sound department, where as suspension parts do nothing for visual except lowering the car. If it makes you feel better should I list mods that I plan on doing in the future??? Like braces, swaybars, coil overs or springs????? Sorry for defending our cars.

P.S I think adding HP to a car would help it go faster around a track. Or no, you tell me???

don't take it the wrong way bro, I have nothing against any mods that you or anyone else has done. I'm not gonna tell anyone how to mod their 40k vehicle. I was simply making a comment on your reply, you seemed to be very much so focused on the 1/4 mile times of cars yet at the same time bashing cars that are made for the 1/4 mile. i think we can all agree the z is not made for the drag strip, but rather for a curvy track.
