Is Honest Abe always honest?

Who knows how valid that information truly is. It would be nice to see the Z evolve a bit more (even as a current 370 owner). But I certainly wouldn't hold off buying a Z now if I were in the market for a new one. This kind of future guessing gets people waiting forever...always worrying they won't get the best. News flash: there will always be something better available down the road. It happens all the time with people waiting to buy new Mac computers because everyone thinks the model they want is next in the update cycle. Just buy it if you're shopping for one.

30HP more or less is about right I think. When the Cayman S got DI it saw similar gains. It doesn't sound like much at first but that's right around the same gains from a VQ35DE to VQ37HR.

I'm not trying to stir the pot here, I'll still love my car, but it will personally bother me a bit.

The way I would see it is how the G & Z got updated, the Infiniti line got the VQ3.7L first for about one year and then over to the Z. I could see an updated G37 in 2012 or 2013 and then 2014 the Z gets the update.
Who knows where Nissan is at testing, a lot of good & bad has come from DI so far and hopefully Nissan is taking ques from others (and with the new Juke).

spearfish25 01-31-2011 12:52 PM

Once I get a S/C, the gains from DI will be laughable. Booooaaahahahahahahah!

I know....;)

It would make sense to update the Infiniti M37, as the M56 is already DI. However, since it's a drop in for the G, it almost certainly is the same for the Z. If the engine is ready, I see this happening sooner than we think.

HP gains are inevitable, as you can tune much closer to stoich, and extract more power from the engine.

Makes me wonder why/when the GT-R is going DI...

GTM or likewise will come out with a direct injection conversion.

I highly doubt this will happen. It takes a bit more then just moving the injectors from the intake manifold to the cylinder head...

Time to wait for one of these to hit the junkyard then toss the engine in mine :P

You guys know that a Camaro weighs like 3500+pounds right? I dont think the Z has to worry much about V6 Camaros or Stangs (which top out at I think like 117mph or some crap) I think the stock 370 holds its own pretty well against the 400+hp Stang and Camaro. Its just as fast or faster to 60, I mean yea the V8's run away from it in the quarter but not but leaps and bounds. And I would hope nissan would wait more then like 3 years to make a big change like that. I mean from like what 04-08 the 350 only gained like 20hp correct???

Don't forget. DI isn't about HP gains it's about fuel efficiency and meeting Upcoming Government regulations. So if Nissan needs to bring up their average MPGs this change seems logical.

Simple fact is, the 370 shouldn't be competing with the likes of the V6 Mustangs and Camaros, their competition is the V8 counterparts, which both meet or exceed the Z's performance. Also, there are other cars in our rear view mirror, such as the Genesis Coupe, that are rumored to be getting huge power bumps in the near future. Nissan has to act quickly.

Also, the Z went from 287hp in 2003 and ended at 306hp in 2008. However the changes were much deeper than that, as the HR engines were far superior to the DE engines that the 2003's came with.
