I think you're absolutely right ChrisSlicks, I should have braked when I saw the water but instead I released the gas pedal thinking it would be enough and I'd just go straight on.

Damn man im really sorry about the crash. Glad to see your OK, heard the Audi S3 is a fun little car to drive, have fun
