No, I personally would not buy a car thats been wrecked. I work on BMW's for a living at a dealer, when a car comes in thats been thru a body shop theres never any telling what your going to get into. Albeit there not all bad and you do have body shops that will take all the right steps to repair a car thats been wrecked and get it back to OEM standards. In my experience though, those are rare rare instances few and far between. These cars are new and relatively easy to find if you bide your time and look around, wait and get one that hasn't been hit.

I wouldn't buy for $32.5K but I would for $500.

You need to get the paperwork from the insurance company that initially wrote it off. This paperwork "should" be explicit as to why they wrote it off. The photographs you posted are likely from that insurance company. Also, CARFAX means nothing. So much can be hidden—and is by those in the business.

no way

It appears to be repairable but it is going to get expensive. Don't buy it expecting there only to be $5K in repairs. Could be lots of expensive hidden damage. Frankly, for the price they would have to sell the car for it would be better to part it out.

Salvage title is a big problem in many states. Some states will let you register a vehicle with a salvage title, others won't unless you can provide documentation that it was repaired with all OEM parts at a registered body shop. Salvage may remain on the title which plummets the value of the car. If you're building a track car that may be no big deal if you never intend to register it.

How very affordable are we talking about? Because I would want it to be Very Affordable to have extra money to fix all the issues your going to run into

I had similar damage to a past car but my fenders were not as mangled. My repair bill was almost $9k. This one is probably significantly more than that being a rear wheel drive car and all the extra body work that will be needed.

Don't buy this car!

Jordo! 01-11-2011 06:10 PM

How much do they want for it?

If there's frame damage, it's a bit iffy...

BrianMSmith 01-11-2011 06:45 PM

It might be worth $5k at best as is, if it cost you another $10k to repair it (ask for an estimate from a reputable shop), and with a salvage title you'd already be upside down on resale value, but you'd have a cheap car that you could run for years. salvaged titles can be very hard to sell.
