I said GoodBye to my Z - III

Well, I also said goodbye to my Z late last night. The dealer was happy with it and so was I.

I will miss it, especially the 'no car payment' status. :)

I will still troll here. I am a car-fanatic and I am not saying goodbye to this forum yet.

Thank you all.

m4a1mustang 01-08-2011 07:44 PM

What did you replace it with?

Educ8r 01-08-2011 08:01 PM

Wow!

Cab, I'm glad you're sticking around! Car fanatics should always be welcome here. Did you replace the Z?

Mike 01-08-2011 09:00 PM

I figured with everything for sale it was going soon. Let us know what you got!!!

cab83_750 01-08-2011 09:01 PM

I replaced it with a glorified Volkswagen -- 997S

I decided against the Gayman! :)

cab83_750 01-08-2011 10:22 PM

Thank you all for the congratulations. I am loving the 997; I believe I made the right choice bypasssing the Cayman. It's midnight blue and not a cab.

I closed the deal last night after hitting the canyons. I felt at home!!!! :) Ironically, work is a killer again and worked today (i just got home). Will work again tomorrow, but I promise that I will post pics --------- from one car fanatic to another!!!!

m4a1mustang 01-08-2011 10:23 PM

A P-car is definitely on the bucket list for me... Maybe after the Mustang. :)

:icon18: I got old and lazy ---- didn't want to, and got tired of spending a lot of legs and arms power pointing the Z where I want it to go. :happydance:

p.s.,

Let's hope this thread doesn't turn into another 'P vs. Z comparo' thread.

Good to know!!!!!

The only thing I hate about Porsche is the 'porsche financing dept.' Here is one of many humurous times last night:

Porsche: Sir, would you consider a clear bra?
Me: No thank you.
Porsche: Why? It does not make sense. You have a clear bra on your Z, but you don't want a bra on your 997?
Me: I do.
Porsche: Hmmm....we are puzzled!
Me: Well, you shouldn't be puzzled. Why would I pay you $1,200.00 when I can get it for $500.00.
Porsche: And where is that?
Me: At the place by the airfield. They do helicopters too.
Porsche: If we match it, would you consider it?
Me: Can I have VentureShield?
Porsche: Well, we could but no 'no-fault' warranty. 3M will do no-fault.
Me: I don't want 3M. It yellows.
Porsche: Well, I have it in my car and it does not yellow.
Me: Good for you. I have it on my other Porsche it is now yellow.

It took me a second to get the joke. Very funny.

You stepped it up a notch or two I see. Good job. When I saw VW I thought this guy must have lost his job or something. I am glad this is not the case. What did Porsche figure the trade in value of your Z?

ImportConvert 01-09-2011 09:19 AM

It's all just hearsay until we get some evidence...

cab83_750 01-09-2011 10:31 AM

I seriously considered the Gayman due to the mid-engine layout. A Napa Valley man bought the car I wanted. The "new" Cockster sold out for 2011.

Porsche did not buy my car; the Nissan dealer did. 26k miles, base, Stick, blk, Rays, aero package, needs tires frt/rear: $22,500. As a reference, Carmax offer was $21,000.

how does that work?
you took the car to the nissan dealer and asked them if they would buy it?
i always traded my cars to the dealers where I bought my new cars. this is probably not a good practice.
thanks.

Yes. I walked back to the Nissan dealer and told them, "I think I just bought a Porsche. Would you guys want to buy my car which is currently being serviced?" They paged the Manager. The Manager basically went to the service area, checked out my car and said, "Yes, I will buy your car but I must keep your Rays."

Now, as a reminder, Porsche said that they would end up going to Nissan anyways to get an appraisal.

I think it's all a conspiracy!! :roflpuke2:

mick 01-09-2011 11:33 AM

that is a very good idea since the nissan dealer knows how well you have maintained your car. i will definitely go this route the next time. Thanks a lot!

Trips 01-09-2011 11:39 AM

Congrats on the Porsche
Hope to see some pics when you get a chance

That is a great quote - classic. Grats on the P-car! While I love the Cayman, I think I could live with the "VW" configuration of the 911 a little more - perfect DD/grand tourer.

:). I don't want to sound like a proud Dad but I just love being able to actively switch the suspension and sports mode on the fly.

I do hate the key. Porsche should have followed the Z's key fob design.

Yeah, I don't even think about the Cayman anymore.

I am seriously thinking of buying a Zed and test drove an auto today. I curently drive a 6sp manual MX5. I thought the zed was great and VERY easy to drive, so your comment that you got tired of pointing the Zed around corners sounds like crap to me and I beleive you never had a ZED and that you are probably around 16 years of age. How can anyone say driving a ZED is hard? Maybe you should go for a Prius when you old enough!

Lol WTF. Way to totally misunderstand his comment.

Drive a Z and then a 911 in anger and you'll notice you are making more corrections in the Z than you are in the P car.

C'mon man, i have not driven a 911 but from what i have read the 911 is an inherantly poorly designed car with a terrible f/r weight distribution. Now ican not imagine a 911 will feel so much better thaqn a ZED around a corner with so much rear weight bias in the 911 and once you acceralte that weight bias ia made even worse, so i can not imagine the 911 would inspire much confidence. To me today when i tok the Zed on a test drive, man did it feel great through the corners,,,flat, grippy and fast and so solid. i do not know cause i have not driven a 911 but IF it is better then it is only probably fractionally better and so it ought to be considering how much more it costs than the ZED. ANYWAY WHERE ARE THE OP'S PICTURES????

m4a1mustang 01-10-2011 09:09 PM

Well that is definitely true of the older ones but Porsche has really worked the balance to resolve all the tail happy madness with the modern versions. The Z is really good, but the P cars are just that much better. You've got to get out and drive one to really appreciate it.
