![]() Sorry to beat a dead horse, but were oil temps a reason why you parted with the Z? |

Thank you all for the compliments and congratulations.
Understand that these cars do require a lot of care and, based on my own experience, if you do not have the skills, patience, creativity, tools, you better have the money. Else, they might take you to the cleaners. Yes, I am grinning now. But 'balance of nature' will kick-in years from now and I might cry. I do have extended warranty, so major expenses should be no issues. I do plan on doing my own minor maintenance, until years from now when the warranty expires. I think I would have won the lotto by then. As you can see, I am somewhat equipped to do mechanical work. The only thing I am missing is a lift. |

Nice! That's the upgrade I hope to make in a few years as well, Z to 997

Hello Bob,
I do not think it would be Kosher to discuss the Z's alleged-characters here. As you already suggested, the character you mentioned has been a beaten-horse many many times. I had a 280Z before and was very pleased and has been, and will always be a Z-fan. I will always lurk here hoping for the next Z-generation. All I can say is that the 997S remains at 210 deg max using the same path I used to take on the Z; the Z would hit 250-260 driven a lot easier and slower than the 997S. Given that the regular 997 has a lower HP rating compared to the S, I wonder what the temps would be. As a Volkswagen (possibly Volkswagen/Audi/Porsche tech?), you probably have your own guidelines about oil and engines. Let's possibly leave that as-is to maintain harmony. ![]() Last edited by cab83_750; 01-12-2011 at 12:04 AM. |

![]() ![]() I just saw this one and I thought, after almost 4 years, I would give an update: 1. The 997 C4S has been my daily driver. 2. 60,000 miles on her now and no major issues. I replaced the water pump and alternator recently. I do my own mtce so it has been pretty inexpensive to own. 3. Everything is still bone dry. No leaks or sweating of any kind. 4. As expected, I am on my 4th rear tires. These Michelins cost so much. Grrrr! 5. Still enjoying her everyday. No dings yet Lastly, most importantly, and honestly 6. I do miss the Z. I still troll here and try to be incognito. I still stare at black Zs whenever I see one on the freeway. |
