Trading Z to Evo

I have come to a conclusion that I do not need a 370Z right now...
I'm only 21 years old and I noticed even maintaing this car takes a lot of money! :ugh2: I think I got myself into a big mistake lol... All those tickets made me broke. :confused:As a college student with a part-time job I was a zomebie at times. I am going to a dealership and see my options and if I can test drive of course! :stirthepot:
How much would I be losing if I trade in my 370z?
I have 2009 Nissan 370z Base + Sports with Stillen Cat Back Exhaust, Stillen HFC, Stillen CAI, UpRev Tune.

I havent heard alot of good things about the new Evos.

only things I remember is shitty *** gearbox and extremely mod unfriendly.

maintaining costs alot of money? its like what? a oil change once or twice a year?

the tickets problem isn't the car but you.

Tires, Oil changes, Cleaning, Gas, Driving, Traffic, Weather Conditions.
Getting yelled at by all my friends and family for being shelfish and getting a 2 seater. :shakes head:

I am confused here. The 370Z has a 5/60 powertrain and 3/36 warranty, and you shouldn't be outside either of those. Oil/brakes/tires won't be any cheaper than on the EVO.

I was broke as hell in college and rolled an old WS6, and yeah, THAT was a PITA when it broke. No warranty, but with a warranty it sounds like you have it made?

The thing I would worry with (depending on your downpayment) is being upside down in trade possibly?

Oil only needs to be changed every 6K miles or so if you use a good synthetic. It only takes an hour or two of your time and about $80 even if you use some of the more expensive oil/filter combos out there.

The Evo will get worse mileage.

Weather conditions, the Evo will do better with AWD.

Getting yelled at by friends and family for spending your money how you want can be cured by telling them to shove it and finding new friends/setting limits with your family.

Cleaning? I don't understand this cost or how it would differ between a Z and an EVO. Same with traffic.

jaedub 01-08-2011 03:17 AM

I honestly think this is a bad decision. If you're trying to save some money, which i think you are, trading in a car is most definitly NOT a good way. unless, ofcourse its a sh!tty car. You're gonna lose money trading in your car no matter how you look at it. And what high cost maintainance are you talking about? Last time I checked 370z is a japanese car, not a european. And ticket is all your fault....hands down, not your 370.

Vegitto-kun 01-08-2011 03:17 AM

tires will be the same on the evo, oil changes same on evo, cleaning same on evo, gas pretty much the same, driving...the same except for AWD, traffic its gonna be the same its not like the evo will suddenly make driving shitloads easier. weather yeah if its snowing.

I think the only problem you have is peer pressure of your friends whining and benig jealous.

fullmonty 01-08-2011 03:21 AM

I agree with all thats been said above. Trading it in would not be a good move

Kenny 01-08-2011 03:22 AM

yea, you should totally get the new Evo.

It will change your life. The 370Z's high cost of maintenance will be a thing of the past.

Good luck!

Bye.

Vegitto-kun 01-08-2011 03:23 AM

if I remember right, I read that even getting drop in airfilters can destroy the MAF(?) sensors. also about how shitty the gearbox and that it cant handle any extra power

My friend just picked up a nice 500+awhp EVO. Had another friend with a low 12-second EVO8 a few years back. Know another girl with a stock EVO8. All drive/drove aggressively and never had any issues.

However, we are talking about 2 cars under warranty. Maintenance should be the only expense, and that is about equal.

Vegitto-kun 01-08-2011 03:34 AM

Here is another topic about the evo

http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...g-evo10mr.html

dont see many awesome good things about it.

older evos maybe but the new one.

CrownR426 01-08-2011 03:35 AM

Evo 10's quicker correct?

Vegitto-kun 01-08-2011 03:42 AM

been reading around and seems the 0-60 is around 4.9.

370 is like 5.0-5.2. not that much faster.

also you talked about the cost of the tickets you get, good job getting a "quicker" car then.

So this is really about being bored with yoru current ride and wanting a car that you think you can make faster than your current ride without much cash out-lay, and all the other stuff is what you are telling the rational side of your brain and others to convince you/them of the responsibility of this purchase.

Just reading between the lines.

The EVO10 is supposedly faster than the EVO8, but both are pretty slow unless from a dig or modded.

CrownR426 01-08-2011 03:55 AM

Hmm why do people get the GSR?
I thought the MR was best?

ThoriumHotdog 01-08-2011 03:59 AM

Something isn't right here.

OP wants a faster, different car, and is rationalizing it poorly. What's wrong?

He's 21 and if he can afford it, I think he should do it. Either he will love it and be happy, or hate it and learn a life-lesson that noone could teach him. I am only 25 and am still learning those kinds of lessons. As long as noone is maimed, it's a good thing.

Im in North Jersey and it snows too much for winter.

Depends on how shitty you want to go for your DD. There are $300 options out there. I remember on the corvette-forum a while back one of the saddest stories about a beater I ever saw.

IT is such a hardcore story that I googled for the last 5 minutes to bring it to you:

Buy a DD for that muck and keep the Z for nice weather or...

DD the evo and drive it on the snowed/salted roads. :roflpuke2:

HKYStormFront 01-08-2011 07:25 AM

sell me the Z? :stirthepot:

fairladyZ34 01-08-2011 08:44 AM

I dont think trading it in will help with you getting tickets

RCZ 01-08-2011 09:34 AM

+1, sounds like maybe sell the Z and get something more affordable until you're out of school and have a good steady job?

If you don't want to do that, then sell your mods and pay your maintenance with them...

Reaper42 01-08-2011 09:56 AM

A. Evo X is way slower than 370z. I was smoking moddified EVO's and STI's with my then stock 370.

B. How the hell do you afford a 370 if your still in school, someone has to be obviously helping you pay your bills.

C. Some of your reasons to get rid of it you listed are "tires, gas, driving, cleaning, traffic, oil changes" Lets see, im at 15,000 miles and still on my stock tires, evo uses same premium gas and abut the same gas mileage, so I dont see your logic there, driving, well umm its a car thats what you fing do with it, cleaning...every car needs to be cleaned :shakes head: and unless you have lights and sirens on your evo, traffic is NOT gunna clear up just because you have an evo. Only logical thing you said is weather conditions because yes, being a previous evo owner myself, that AWD does come in handy in the winter

D. If money is an issue, you will LOOSE big time by trading in for an evo

E. TRUE car enthusiasts prefer the gsr over mr because gsr is stick (no offense AT guys, but we all know MT is the true way to go with a sports car) as well as it being known that the MR's transmission cant handle much more hp than stock, so you have really no options in modding it

F. There are plenty more mods available for the 370z than there are the evo

G. I got pulled over WEEKLY when I had my evo, that thing is a HUGE cop magnet! I have not gotten pulled over ONCE in my 370 in 2 years. I drive the same way I did with my evo, and my Z is 10x louder and more modified. I believe the 370 is a true gentlemans car. So if your worried about tickets and stuff, you mind as well put a sign on your back that says "I have a lot of illegal drugs and weapons on my person" cause you will prob still have less issues with cops than you will driving around with an EVO at 21 years old

My advice? Get rid of your 370 for a 14k Jeep. Finish school, grow up, learn more about cars, get a steady job, and then come back and buy a 370. I myself will welcome you with open arms :tiphat:

Snakes709 01-08-2011 10:03 AM

If your trading your Z in for a evo just cuz evos are faster, thats a bad decision. But if you are trading in the Z for other reasons then i agree with it. I lost $20,000 when i traded my Z in, but i wanted to get rid of the Z so bad. I got screwed on the price ($55,000 before interest). I had abit of damage to my car as well so your looking around a loss of $15,000.

Cell 01-08-2011 10:10 AM

Sounds like a very bad decision for you to change.

Who cares about what others say when it is your money. When they QQ at your 2 seater just tell them to walk. I did exactly that when my aunt complained about a 2 seater. I told her to walk. Not only that, it is your money in the end.

Everything else is just you. Change your driving habit to get better gas mileage and to stop attracting cops. Cleaning and maintenance, well that goes with all cars and with a turbo car, expect quicker oil changes and just as bad gas mileage if you have a heavy foot.

CrownR426 01-08-2011 10:34 AM

Just woke up going for a test drive later today...
I see my Z from the window.

k20z3 01-08-2011 11:06 AM

Dont switch crown we love you too much

esfourteen 01-08-2011 11:45 AM

This is the 2nd thread you've made about this, if you want the evo and you can afford it, just get it. Personally I think your reasons listed are all BS with the exception of 4 seats and snow, those 2 are perfectly valid. However, as others have stated if you thought you got a lot of tickets in the Z, just wait till you drive around in your cop magnet.

and I find this hilarious, just a few threads down on someone trading for an RS4

Sell the Z, buy a chevy aveo and come back when you can afford to drive a sports car.

Nitrouz 01-08-2011 12:46 PM

Don't do it. New evo's are trash. I agree with everyone's sentiments above.

If you don't have kids, you don't need back seats.

You're just acting on impulse right now. You WILL regret it, afte losing all the money on the trade and then realizing that maintaining the evo costs the same as the Z if not more. Z is cheap to maintain relative to other cars. It's just a normal car.

I will say this again...you WILL regret it. And you'll end up being broke and sad and there won't be anything you can do about it.

Vegitto-kun 01-08-2011 01:20 PM

somehow I think he is doing this for attentions with the whole "going for test ride......seeing my Z at the window" like he is acting all dramatic.

:icon18:

:iagree:with the others to sell the Z for the evo you are not only losing money but you are moving into much less of a car IMO, it has been made with less quality and is also probably just as expensive to maintain!

CrownR426 01-08-2011 02:16 PM

Hm...

Vegitto-kun 01-08-2011 02:29 PM

how hard is the decision?

you will lose money
its slower
more mod unfriendly apparently
the costs of maintaining it are the same or more
its a cop magnet

only thing it can do is drive on snow which you could do with a cheap *** DD with snow tires

CrownR426 01-08-2011 02:36 PM

Yes, I wish this decision was easy but it's not right now...
I test drove both trims, the GSR and the MR earlier today.
Did not live up to my expectations.
Although you can take turns at very high speeds other than that it seemed boring.
Acceleration didn't get me too excited but man does that Turbo sound sweet!

AK370Z 01-08-2011 02:37 PM

Crown, education comes first. You have ALL YOUR LIFE to enjoy and buy whatever you like. But right now your main goal/focus should be on education. As RCZ and some others said, sell your 370Z and get a cheap affordable car (May I suggest 2011 civic. Get 38 MPG on highway and you can buy one for like 15K invoice or a 2011 Nissan Versa for 13K brand new). That's what I would do. I have simply seen way too many kids buying expansive Benz and Bimmer to act cool in school, then ended up working 40 hours a week to pay for it. Due to working so many hours, they keep dropping class, getting Cs or delaying their graduation. You have to get your goal straight Crown. Of course this is just my opinion and I'm only telling you this because I like you.
