I agree with everyone about regretting the switch over to an evo. Especially if you already have awesome whip. I know all about wanting something different during these winter months. It snowed today, i know. I live in the same state as you. Thats why I have a 99 Altima... beater!!. That cars mad dependable, 4drs and you can have more then 1 friend in it!! Also its fun in snow. In the EVO? why get a brand new car just for the snowy days. Thats silly. Your gonna miss having the Z. Think smart, instead of buying upgrades on the Z save and get a DD. Bought mine DD for 2gs with 85k on the dash. Ever think of having a car to drive without worrying about breaking it?? That evo will eventually break and will cost you money and a crap load of " we told you so"
Your being overly dramatic about the who thing. Its funny, i feel like im being a parent that's saving my son from making another bad decision. Meaning getting a Z in the first place and being student with not alot money and purchasing a non practical vehicle? Not good. But so what, nobody's perfect.I bought a Z to and i don't even have a crib, nor a garage to keep it in..lol But this your moment, not mine. Good luck my son..may the Z be with you..:driving: |
Sell ur Z, go get a used EVO8 RS pre modded.
|
Evo = $$$ pit
And the only thing it has on the z is speed after extensive moddding |

I get the feeling crown won't baby a car a modded Evo will eat syncros for lunch , the z is atleast reliable and has a warranty. Evos also always can go faster and mOdding gets to be a habit .. My fav is a 9 MR tho. Sick car just not any cheaper IMO
Looks are subjective but the z is def a classier car I picked up a 97 Subaru legacy GT 2.5. For this winter. I have had a blast in it. Keeping miles off the Z plowing through snow and when I drive the Z it feels like a Ferrari now. It's awesome, 2k well spent. |
Pay to play - if you cant fix it dont mod it, having said that - if you have not popped a motor you aint lived... lol ;-)

I don't think I have it in me to let my Z go... Just can't go out every weekend to the city. |

Just wish I can drive it in snow. lol... I always have a shovel/ice breaker/salt with me when I drive. Just incase I get stuck XD |
Its called something like snow/winter tires
ever heard of it. alot cheaper than buying a Evo. |

Until then I must wait. |
Yes but here you make a topic about selling your Z and knowing you will lose money and then buying a Evo.
But snow tires are NO WAY. No offense mate but this somehow smell of attention seeking/boredom. |

My z will go just fine In the snow with my snow tire/rim setup.
Check my350z for lightly used winter setups. That's what I did, wheels from discounttire for 420 and tires for 250. 670 later I can drive in a blizzard if I had/chose to |

Stay here dude. You seem like a cool young man, taking all the bashing here with stride. Don't make a decision you'll regret.

When I started this thread I was like :o, then :icon14: and upon completion . Glad your sticking with the Z.

Congrats on the new old ride! :icon14:

My theory is parents are paying for it and he was just seeking attention to have his parents buy yet another car for him. There is no way in hell a 21 year old full time in school can afford to pay for a brand new 370z, nor would he ever get qualified to buy one.

a waitor living at home, a bartender, constuction workers who do side work for people or their own on the weekends, and a ton of other jobs could easily have you afford this car.. can do school at night as well my girl got a 2.9% apr used car loan from her credit union when she was 23 for a 06 325xi.. your statement is not valid. |

Keep in mind though -- even with all of that, you will just be touching what a 370Z has at the wheels, stock. The Evo X is a great car -- don't get me wrong -- but if you are really looking for "big power" it is still going to cost you some major cash. You hit a wall around 330 that requires an investment to get past. I'm not getting into this argument here, though. :p It's a great car, but both the STi and the Evo are -not- the heroes they once were. |
I have subscribed to this forum at 2009, when I was looking for more information about the Z, which would replace my wife's Eclipse GT. At that time, I was about to receive my Evo X GSR. I really love the Z. The day we purchased the Eclipse, we have test-driven a Z. My wife have chosen the GT, due to cargo and rear seats. This reason proved right these (almost) 3 years. Although having 6 other cars (from d.d sedans, to 730hp DSM), we find ourselves needing cargo space and the rear seats a lot of times. We have 2 children.
Even so, we are constantly attracted by the Z and sometimes we thought on trading it for a Z, specially after the 370Z got released. It looks there are some misconceptions regarding the Evo X, which is totally normal for non-Evo guys: - The MR version has the automated transmission. It is fully modded with bolt-ons and even upgraded turbos. You might get a 320-330whp MR with just simple bolt-ons. There are 500awhp MRs over there, but you will waste more money, since the transmission (as stock) is not able to handle a ton of torque; - The GSR version has the manual transmission. It is fully modded. There are 816whp GSR over there. The clutch sucks, if you plan to launch often; - The new Evo is slightly slower on long straights, compared to the IX. But it is better or, at least, equal, on slalom and skidpad. On road racing, there are mixed results for the stock. But due to its higher rigidity and equilibrium, the Evo X shines in its capability as a base for modded time-attack warriors. In this regards, since 2009, the Evo X have been beating older Evos in almost all Time-Attack events. But remember: we are talking about modded cars. Stock x Stock, I am almost sure the 370Z beats the Evo X on straights. As stock, Evo X is not that fast, but with just a reflashing ($179, for the Tactrix cable), I am sure it will beat a stock Z. My friend has an Evo X and a 370Z. Before reflashing, the Z was faster. But not after it. Anyway, its not that big difference and for street use, we all know power-weight is not the only variable. If he is going to stay with a stock car, or just simple bolt-ons, the maintenance cost is quite low for the X. But I guess this is the same with the Z. Performance wise, both are quite similar as stock. The difference start at their d.d. suitability. If the guy is in school, he might need to carry friends, and maybe the cargo would be nice for baggage. But thats his decision. Best regards, Ziki |

I agree with you. |
It doesn't make any sense at all if you are talking about saving money... And about the tickets. How does it translate that the Z is too expensive cuz you get tickets? If the evo is in the same power range how will it change you getting a ticket with an evo?
If cost is a factor and you don't want tickets but want a cool looking econocoupe with sporting intentions. Try a honda CRZ. You get great mileage and its 8 seconds to 60 should be quick enough for highway merging. Or you can try a mazda 3 touring, hyundai sonata 2.0t, subaru wrx. Also the mazda miata might be a good option or maybe even a genesis coupe 2.0. Any car you buy in the Z and performance range will be just as costly in maintenance, if not more expensive. The Z is one of the cheapest cars to maintain in the performance segment. As far as tickets, only you can change that. Not the car. |

The point is, even if you manage to get a loan, it doesn't mean you can afford to pay it off. |
Thanks for the encouraging words, chaps!

Crown, you know me having a civic I would LOVE TO BE IN your shoes right now to have a Z. Appreciate what you have, don't act on impulse and enjoy your car and relive the first day you got it when you get a compliment on it.
