Please direct your attention to the following... I think many people can agree on the dichotomy you are refering to

I used to get the same comments and dirty looks from people when I was 20 and bought a 2 year old Saab 9-3... I saw it as a compliment that they figured a 20 year old was not capable of achieving something like that... I assumed (and this may not be true, but my assumption at the time) that they made such judgements because they couldnt achieve such lengths when they were 20... IMO
