It's a fact!!!

FERRARI 11-18-2010 05:30 PM

100% pURE GASS no ethanol

ETHANOL SHOULD BE FOR DRINKING....

I use pure gas....NO ETHANOL 93 OCTANE There is a big difference in power you will notice right away. Yes it costs more, but to me it is well worth the added "KICK IN THE ***" that it gives, no matter what your are driving. Anyone else on the forum use this?

c41006 11-18-2010 05:35 PM

DO NOT use 87 unless you like engine damage. You'll get pre-detonation out the pooper.
I mistakenly ran 89 for a couple of tanks and it ran like crap.
I also ran a test on my old Celica (11 1/2 to 1 compression) by running "plus" (89 octane). My mileage actually dropped drastically enough that it was cheaper to run 91 or 93.

You could use Avgas (roughly 100 octane) but Jet-A is deisel based and will kill your engine quicker than sucking a dead cat up your intake (that's why we have air filters).

douglaslperry 11-18-2010 09:52 PM

Only 91 goes in my tank

wheee! 11-18-2010 10:02 PM

93 here in NJ, shell v-power with teh nitrogen!

samb03 11-19-2010 02:13 AM

if you need octane just mix in a little TOLUENE. You can get it pretty cheap at your local paint store. 114 octane just don't mix in more than 40% or it will eat your rubber lines up quick. I hear after extended use (every tank) it will get the gaskets in your carburator in a couple years. this was a subject in the hotrodders forum. How to figure octane is the average the octane between the two fuels being mixed. 7:1 ratio of 91 octane to toluene would be 91x6 + 114/ 7= 94.2
Gas stations only have 2 tanks low and high. the octane ratings in the middle are mixxed by pulling fuel from both tanks. In Oklahoma we usually just have 87/89/91. 89 is a 50/50 mix of the 2 that you pay 15 cents a gallon more for then another 15 cents for the high grade.
Toluene..my octane booster of choice - SportsCarForums.com an interesting read for those that use octane boosters.

ClemsonWill 11-19-2010 07:00 AM

I use 93 but I haven't been able to find any without ethanol.

ImportConvert 11-19-2010 08:14 AM

The lowest octane that allows full engine timing under load without any pre-detonation will give optimal performance. All a high octane rating means is that ingredients are added to the gas which retard combustion. It's just extra material in the fluid by volume that takes away from its ability to power your car, once you reach the above point. Kindof like Ethanol, except E85 tuned cars can run some sick compression numbers and make a lot more power.

Carba what?

kenchan 11-19-2010 08:32 AM

I think premium is 93 in my area. I use that.

plato 11-19-2010 12:39 PM

We only get 91 here in SoCal. :(

SeattleLion 11-19-2010 03:07 PM

I use 92 no eth. I just started and I can see a nice gain in mpg and performance feels better too. It only costs a few cents more a gal. here in Washington.

370zsport09 11-19-2010 03:12 PM

I use 93 and 10 bottles of OCTANE BOOSTER :D

I also use my special button just incase ;)

Mt Tam I am 11-19-2010 10:13 PM

91 every time.

AllForTheCash 11-21-2010 12:21 PM

91 or higher!

npdabest 11-21-2010 05:19 PM

I used 93 at Sunoco for the longest time and just recently started with V-Power at Shell. V-Power is also rated 93.

I'm sticking with Shell..it might be just me but it feels like I get better performance.

Now I want to try gas with no ethanol..not sure if such a place exists in Delaware or South Jersey. I assume a stock Z can use it without any changes.

Husky nearby me has 87 and then 94 : /
So I looked in the manual and it says the recommended is 91, putting 94 isn't gonna benefit me in anyway. So, I usually fill up 1/2 tank 94, then come back in a couple of days and fill up 1/4 tank 87. Manual says it's ok...

If your can get NO ETHANOL GAS in your area you will notice a big difference

You can get a slight benefit from the higher octanes as the ECU continues to advance timing until it detects knock, the difference is slight however.

Rob 11-21-2010 07:49 PM

^ Of course, it will make some difference, nothing noticeable however... If I can cheat and save a couple bucks once in a while, won't hurt the car, as long as I'm not running only/or majority 87 I'll be fine I reckon.

I wish there was pure fuel around here, but I don't think there is... I'd for sure try it. Can you notice the difference in just normal day to day driving? Does it burn faster or is there no change in that?

crash1369 11-21-2010 08:23 PM

 Are you really that desperate to save $2.00?!? I would be wiling to bet you don't need that candy bar anyway

OMG! the difference is more than you would believe......and you get more Miles Per Gallon.......

KillerBee370 11-21-2010 09:13 PM

I just piss in my tank after a night of drinking and this happens...

Don't have a Z just yet but I currently pump non ethanol gas and you do get more miles.
