I liked the look of the CR-Z when I passed it once in the parking lot on foot. Did a walk around, and it's got nice styling. Not sure I'd buy one, especially hearing the curb weight and knowing the power behind it. Maybe a test drive would change my mind?
mdbrich, you said you wanted to "have fun and go the extra mile" - got it; but you also said "I needed an auto"? Why not a base Z with an auto? Where there any other reasons you chose the CR-Z, and things you didn't like about the Z? Probably the only thing in my case for such a downgrade would be to free up some $$$.
