Default Clunk from rear when engaging gear from standstill

Does anyone hear a bit of a clunk from the back of the car from what appears to be the diff or axles when trying to shift into 1st from neutral at a standstill? The sound is most obvious if trying to get into gear quickly immediately after pressing the clutch when he input shaft of the gearbox is still rotating. If you wait a couple of seconds till the input shaft stops you dont hear the sound. The sound also occurs if trying to get into 2nd from neutral at a standstill.

Understand that correct back-lash for gears is around .006 at the very tightest, and usually around .007-.012 IIRC.

This is definitely enough distance to hear a bit of a clunk from, especially when you factor U-joint, slip-yoke, and all the gears in the transmission ALSO have a bit of slop in them (if they didn't, the car wouldn't be going anywhere). You probably have around .25-.5" of slop in the drive-line or more, easily. Maybe even more. I wouldn't worry about it.

Very doubtful.

Worry about whining, not clunking.

No issues here either. I'd have the dealership check it out.
