I have done the hatch and doors and the final thing was new Conti tires.. I am happy to report the car if perfect..for me. Its so quiet that I can actually see that any more sound dampening would spoil the sport car experience, as some have said.
Actually, i can also understand why some might think I had already gone too far...

...but I do like to take long distance drives with my wife and I just cannot bear the thought of the road noise drowning out her "helpful advice" as to traffic signs, my speed, braking, lane changing, other drivers and such..

Well i now feel I can really enjoy this car to its fullest...sometimes when driving on the back-roads, sometimes driving on the highway and always when ALONE..

This site saved me from what I thought was a huge mistake at first by buying a car that was just far too annoying on the open road...so one annoyance down...one more to go...if you catch my meaning..

Did you end up using anything on top of the dynamat (or whatever product you went with)? Like some sort of padding like dynapad or a similiar product from second skin?

Just wanted to report in that I'm about 1/2 way done with mine. I bought the trunk kit from FatMat and it wasn't enough. Spent over 4 hours trying to get it all in real good. Sh*t stuck like crazy, even in little pieces where little pieces helped. Used plain scissors to cut; then my fingers, the handle of the scissors and the roller they sent to push it all down. 5 sheets @ 18 x 36 is not enough material to do it all. I started with the fender wells, then did the front floor portion right behind the seats, up and over the axle area, and a little left for the floor out in the back corners. I still have to do the floor and back wall. Ordered another 25 sq ft lot to finish the rest. If I have any left over I'm going to double up over the fender wells. The ONLY noise I'm trying to suppress is the rocks & pebbles. The tire, road and exhaust noise are all part of the sports car experience for me. Tinking pebbles are not.

By the way, doing this is a HUGE PAIN IN THE ARSE!!!! :icon23:

I got the DWS..whatever size fits the sport model..i think its 19 in the back and 18 in the front...I think they are better than the stocks but so much of this is what you want..They are quieter and I do notice a VERY slight bit of looseness in the steering and a slightly smoother ride..These are trades I am willing to make.....,but a real diehard purist on the track might not like that,.,just to let you know,..I know some companies have a policy that says if you don't like the tire you can get another set,..I would definitely advise you do that..

I went with the DWS because the salesman said, and Guard Dad confirmed, that the S has a chemical in the rubber which prevents it from hardening in cold weather...which can make the tires loose traction. Maybe the DW would have been better for flat out racing and performance but I have to compromise a bit. I would never drive in snow simply for the reason that they salt and sand the roads and that is bad for the car...but it does get cold here and I was told that anything under 45 degrees is getting into a dangerous area...so better safe than sorry..
Good luck...

No it was straight dynamat...sticky form of some sort on one side and a metallic foil on the other...

My experience was that no one thing does it all but that the doors are the big thing, followed by the hatch and then things were fine but the tires made it perfect ..for me anyway.

I've been running on the DWS for about 5k miles and they're not bad. They're all season tires, and Charlies is correct, they don't get as hard in the cold, and they handle very well in wet conditions. They're not that much quieter than the stock Bridgestones, but they are noticeably softer giving you a more comfortable ride. But that comfy ride comes at a cost. The softer tire wall means the turn in and weight shifts make the car feel "mushy" making it a little less fun IMO.

Has anyone tried the Bridgestones RE970AS Pole Position as an alternate to DWS?
They are rated a bit higher overall on Tire Rack, especially for road noise.
Been following the noise thread for a while and tires seem to be part of the solution in a lot of posts.

Yup! life is a compromise....but i find the car just as much fun..and in fact like it a lot better.

Good Insight

Thanks, Ill stay with the Hankooks v12s with the Avant Garde rims. Never drive in cold weather so the Continentals wouldnt match my needs.

Well not to confuse the matter but there is the Conti DW which is not for cold weather..just thought I would mention it..

This thread has been extremely helpful. I love my cars loud (FI headers and exhaust), but I like to hear the exhaust and engine, not road, tire and pebble noise.

I added 12 sq ft of B-Quiet to the hatch floor and wheel well area, and also cut out an "egg crate" foam sleeping pad to fit the hatch area under the trunk mat. One mattress pad did about 3 layers. I also had some leftover commercial carpet, so I did one layer of that to fit. (I have no spare or anything in my trunk). With the trunk mat in place, it looks 100% stock. Plus I can remove it in 30 seconds if needed.

It made a HUGE difference. The car is still loud as hell, but it's the RIGHT kind of noise. It actually makes the engine and exhaust sound 100% clear without all the tire and road noise. And when the weather is nice, I have the windows down anyway so I can hear the exhaust note even more. But it's nice to have the option of carrying on a conversation or listening to music if I want to.

It's been one of the best mods I've done to the car so far. Highly recommended. For $50 and about 1 hour of your time, you can't go wrong.

Hatch solution

:iagree: Can be much cheaper to do like Raw shark. Im also going to lowes again and find an additional item to help. Like carpet padding cut and layed out to fill the hatch area under the trunk mat. PS I did drive on Friday and is quieter with what I already did. The issue of road noise is that it is no factor any longer.
