If they last for 50,000 miles then I get half off. Makes a huge difference at the end of the day.

your dealer is full of SH*T.:shakes head:

Tire Dealers

All reputable tire dealers will give you a credit on tires that wear out befor the stated mileage, IF you bought the tire from them. Just did it with Discounts/America Tire yesterday. On typical Toyoto Camry tires, Discount gave me a $53 credit on each tire (4), towards the new Bridgestone $120 tires for my Granddaughter. You can do better than Sears.
Sound deadening Material? I agree with the Frost King/Home Depot products. Really look at the reviews on the expensive stuff. Most say it helped some, not a lot. Overrated IMHO.
Cheers

The Cheepo NR

After reading this thread and others like it I decided to try something. Now, If I had expendable funds Id have everything dynamat-ed or lizard skinned. But I don not. So what I did was I took a blanket, its like one of those thin microfiber throws. I folded it and worked it to fit in the spare tire well, with a bit hanging out. I put the tire back in on top of that. I then took some mirofiber towels and folded them and stuffed them between the space between the tire and the metal separating the hatch and passenger area. I then all of the other layers back. Everything fit.

The result wast amazing, but it did knock out some of the most annoying ambient noise. And for the cost, it is a great alternative for knocking the edge off.:twocents:

Agree - I'm using Hankook Ventus V12 Evo and they are quieter than stock for sure.

I was cleaning some stuff out of closets this weekend and found a couple of fleece blankets / throws (Walmart, like $15). Wrapped one around the outside of the tire & stuffed one under the sub inside the spare. Made a pretty decent difference. I think both were Queen size. Between that and my new Indy 500 tires, I can actually have a conversation in the car now.

So based on your findings, I can conclude that a couple king sized fleece blankets would be even better? Haha, but all seriousness aside, Harbour Freight has large heavy quilted movers blankets for less than $10 that may work well too. And I've mentioned before that the Continental Xtreme Contact tires I put on my Z really did cut down the road noise.

It would be awesome to have that in our car to separate us from the noisy rear hatch area.

buy a coupe or sedan with a rear seat?

Cabin Noise Reduction

I agree. Nissan could have done a better job. It's ridiculous. I was able to quiet mine down quite a bit, probably by 50%. Although I don't like adding weight, I did use Dynamat in the cargo area under and among the spare tire. Then I sprayed the foam inside the areas I could not get to without taking everything apart. Next, I found a real piece of carpet that was very thick online and threw away the paper thing OEM carpet. This helped a lot. It even had a Z emblem right in the middle. Lastly, I pulled all the plastic molding that surrounds the back window and used sound deadening on all sides. I just cut the shapes to fit in-between the lines. After that, it's now very quite. I was surprised on how much noise was coming in from there but on my car, it was clearly and improvement:happydance:.
