After 14 hours an iPod goes into hibernation or after 36 hours, into deep sleep, depending on model. I would guess booting on power on after this would cause the

if for some reason the connection became lose and then the ipod bounced a bit and the it re connected it would turn on the audio and switch the input to ipod just by connecting to it.
