Meaning... if you have it, you are going to face major engine work and weeks if not months without your Z. I'm only asking because I want to do the right thing with my new car.
This was meant to be a heads up to any unsuspecting person who buys a 2009, nothing more. Checking your oil doesn't necessarily protect you from the problem but it may prevent many future headaches. As you wrote...it could be MONTHS without your Z if it requires a long block replacement.

I own the 2012 and have not really seen an issue so far. This is my daily driver, so I change my oil almost monthly....

I would also like to know if steps have been taken to address the issue. With a new 2013 arriving possibly this week, I'm still a bit nervous about dealing with this issue again in the future. I know the 2009/2010 have the TSB... but I'm almost positive that I have read threads on this forum from owners of a 2011 that still had the problem. I wonder if it has anything to do with oil temperature. Do you think the 2012/2013 oil cooler helps at all? I only started to have this problem during the summer of 2012, which coincidentally was one of the hottest in recent memory in the northeast. I'm talking 100 degrees plus... causing oil temps to approach 250 degrees or higher during spirited driving.

I have an '09 with about 27,000 miles on it. Have been running Redline 05W-30 oil since the 5,000 mile mark. I use 1.5 qts every 5,000 miles and it hasn't gotten better. I just live with it, although I do keep it at the top mark all the time. I add a little oil about every 800-1000 miles.

My vin is jn1az44e49m404483

In my first ever HPDE (I bought the car at 10K as a track car, and it hit the track at 10.4K) it used 1/4 of a quart per 30 minute session.

I have a 2009.

i have a late production 2011, according to a few techs that i spoke to when i went in for my first oil change nissan revised the engine a little during the late 2011 runs to correct issues with oil consumption and looking at their TSB for oil consumption issues it does not apply to 2011 and up Z's. 25,000 miles in on my late production run 2011 and no oil consumption issues at all.

awesome man, have to say the new look is better in person than it is in pictures...can't really say i like the new blue though, just one more dark color to add to the Z's already dark color choices aside from white, red and silver now...oh well just another reason to be glad i got a monterey blue lol

I'm about a quart low every oil change... could that morph into a more serious problem?

My bassturd uses some oil. I just check it at every fillup now and maybe have to add a quart every 3k-4k miles. Am I fine to keep doing this?

that dont sound good.

my 2009 ate close to a quart early on, but lately no more than maybe 1/2 to 1/3 a quart. im at 16k miles.

my G was the same way, completely stopped eating oil around 18k-20k miles.
she's at 35k miles now.
