Question about door sound

Whenever I first turn off my car and open the door, there is a short mechanical sound that comes from behind the left side of the dash. I can only describe it as some kind of actuator noise or a small motor moving. It only lasts maybe 2 seconds. It’s not the window moving down. I have also heard it on my buddies IS350.

Any ideas what it is?

Yeah, I get that too. I assume it is the on board computer shutting down.

And just to get the reference in there before anyone else...

I'll bet Miata doors don't make this silly sound.

Back on topic tho mine makes a slight sound, always has from the same area, i just thought it was the steering lock like the rest.

its normal, they all do it, no clue what it is, but i'll second Professor, sounds like the computer is shutting down or somethin.

Isnt that the steering wheel lock being engaged?

Steering lock sounds about right.

The sound only occurs when you open the door for the first time after shutting the car off. Not immediately upon shutting the car off.

I assumed he was referring to the low pitched whine it makes when you shut the car off.

yep, steering wheel lock. Thats a pretty awesome feature to have, especially if you live in areas where auto theft is common.

in shady areas turn the steering wheel left or right all the way and then shut off the car.

Do I point the wheels toward the sun or toward the shade?

I believe if you watch the Start button you'll see it change to Lock.
