UPDATE! One Bad Day... Crashed My Z. (got my car back finally)

UPDATE

FINALLY GOT MY CAR BACK

this bodyshop was horrible.
i'm going to be going after them with all I can.

if anyone can give me tips on how to file a report on this shop, that'd be great. i've gotten some info, but more is always welcomed.

i have to take it to another bodyshop to get 3 interior panels replaced that the bodyshop scraped up. i spoke with the agent who handled my car, and i'll be giving him a call tomorrow to get all the information on making this bodyshop pay for the repairs.

i even had 33 miles unaccounted for on my car. i understand road testing, but 33 miles? they even played with my custom sound system and almost blew my sub.

this whole thing was just freaking rediculous.

car went in September 28th 2010
i got it back January 7th 2011
it took them OVER 3 MONTHS to repair my car...

I need to be compensated for all the money I lost having to pay for rentals because the bodyshop refused to pay anything.

for anyone inside the ventura, ca area. STAY AWAY FROM "BARBER FORD BODYSHOP." they are horrible in every way possible.

ORIGINAL POST
YES VDC WAS ON

Crash'd Album

Driving down to Taco Bell after a movie, and find out my back right tire has a huge nail it in, so I put my spare tire on. I continue down to taco bell, and went to make a lane change in a 30mph zone, it's 10pm out so it's pretty dark, and right as I'm halfway through the change, some raised truck comes flying up on me going at least 60, not thinking much of it, I swerved back into my lane... That's where everything went bad. My spare tire picked up off the road(which was just repaved and was had fresh oil still) And I got thrown to the opposite side of the road, I had absolutely no traction. I was headed towards a storefront, and I overcorrected like no tomorrow to dodge that, only to run almost head on into a parked car of the side of the road... Luckily, I just knicked it, but it completely ripped my front wheel off.
I'm lucky no cars were coming the opposite way because I probably wouldn't be sharing this story right now.

I'm never using a spare tire again... AAA anytime from now on.

So far, the repair bill is at $14,000. It's just crazy.
I had to rent a Dodge Charger until my car is fixed (they promised it by the 20th) Hopefully everything pans out... I'm just worried about the paint part because I have the 40th Edition.

fairladyZ34 10-02-2010 10:19 AM

just thank god your okay. its not as bad as the accident i got into last night...

Cell 10-02-2010 10:20 AM

I don't think you were supposed to drive even close to 30mph with a spare.

spearfish25 10-02-2010 10:22 AM

Sorry for the huge mishap. Those spares creep me out too...you have to just limp around on them until you get things fixed.

My recommendation is to get one of the Blackjack tire repair kits. You can fix your tire on the spot, usually without taking the tire off the car. I've fixed 4 nails in my rear tires and they've held up beautifully through numerous track days and autocrosses.

Donut spares are usually rated for 50-60mph.

TROOPER 10-02-2010 10:24 AM

OK, I'll be the first one to call BS on this story LOL

You did that much damage at only 30mph, and set off air bags, by hitting a car on the other side of the road, just because of the spare tire.

Come on dude, whats the real story..?? ;)

I'm not you're insurance company, you can be honest HaHa

ThoriumHotdog 10-02-2010 10:27 AM

Either way, glad to hear you're alright. Cars can be replaced ya know.

OP, damn that sux, bro. Again, the most important thing is that everyone's alright.

TongMan 10-02-2010 10:38 AM

I was contemplating taking out my spare for weight savings...now I may have to actually take it out and just call roadside assistance when I have tire issues on the road. BTW, what is Nissan's roadside assistance number? And how much would it cost to call them out each time?

Sibze 10-02-2010 10:46 AM

Damn, sorry dude!

Not to mention that accident avoidance kind of relies on the front wheels (that turn).
Sorry about the wreck, but come on. 30?

Not saying that there is or is not BS in the original story, but you can certainly cause damage like that if you hit a fixed object at 30mph since the forces behind that kind of impact is sizeable. Hitting a high enough curb at 30mph can definately rip a wheel off as well.

Good luck getting the car fixed OP, it always stinks to have to go through with this.

Seether13 10-02-2010 12:15 PM

Sorry about your mishap

I had an accident earlier this year with another 370 at about 25 - 30mph and no airbags came out luckily, the repairs were quoted at $13 125

If you don't think turning the front tires can cause the back tires to lose traction you're crazy. Especially when one of the back tires is about 2 inches wide.

antman22 10-02-2010 01:52 PM

i vomited in my mouth a little when i saw the photos. glad that you're ok tho, cars can be repaired or replaced....

cab83_750 10-02-2010 01:55 PM

Good you are ok

FYI, I have been hit at least 6 times for the last 10 years (none my fault). Haven't had one that was my fault. I am insured up to my ying-yang, but I am pretty sure it is devastating to see one's personal car get messed up.

Trips 10-02-2010 02:06 PM

Sorry to hear what happened, I'm glad to see your Ok. The Z is only a car, and will get fixed. The main thing is nobody was hurt. What happened the A$$hole who made you swerve?

Try to take your car here if your insurance will approve the work! They do excellent work! They will match your paint, you will be happy!

The spare tire may have contributed to the loss of traction! A fresh oiled road and "the brand of tires on the Z" , doesn't surprise me that this happened!

CrownR426 10-02-2010 02:20 PM

If you want it to look like new, make sure they replace all the damaged parts.
NOT REPAIR, ANY collision damage that bad will never look the same.
Good luck finding the right color!

Uh, that is probably pretty honest. I guess you've never been in an accident at that speed before?

If his tire caught on anything (which it probably did) then it could've easily caused that damage.

That is the real story, if anything it was between 30-35mph not exactly 30, but as you notice, it's only that one part that was damaged, it wasn't as if anything was pushed in, so there wasn't a lot of force, but still 30mph, you'd be surprised what can happen. I didn't even feel much of the force of the hit either, it was more like my car was pushed over to the side. I was fully turned to the right which I'm sure is why my tire bent sideways as easily.

Funny thing is, the car I hit (Nissan Quest) Only needed a new headlight and a tire alignment... Other than that, there were only scuffs on the bumper.

My wheels wouldn't grip at all, weird thing is, my skidmarks start immediately from when I turned into my lane, and there's no marks for the spare tire which is why I believe it kinda just floated causing my power to only be on one wheel.

I also needed new tires (16k miles currently) so I'm pretty sure that didn't help me out all that much either.

not only did no one catch him, the person that was behind me didn't even stop to see if i was ok.

pretty much, the only witness just up and left.

I got a part list, and it looks as if they're ordering new parts(no reusing parts).
Crazy thing, a single headlight cost over $1000, and our 40th anniversary seat covers? $1200. There's more, but that's what stood out right away.

==================
Anyway, my repair is promised to me by the 20th.

It's being repaired at Barber Ford Body Shop: Ventura, CA 93001

I didn't really have a good list of choices around here, so I went with the only big body shop near me.

TROOPER 10-02-2010 03:40 PM

Good job to hear your OK anyway

Hope you get it fixed and back on the road soon.

WarmAndSCSI 10-02-2010 03:45 PM

There really is no "good" wheel to put a spare on with a RWD car... that really sucks. You either compromise steering grip (very important) or unbalance the rear which delivers power.

Did you catch the douchebag that was driving the lifted truck? Sounds like the stereotypical small-d*cked "truck guy." He's technically liable since his speeding caused you to lose control of your car. For you it was a choice of A) getting rear ended by a lifted truck or B) quickly changing lanes to get out of the way. Either choice, it was that a-hole's fault.

edit: read your post above - that really sucks. Especially that the 1 witness didn't have the balls to stop and help.

kenchan 10-02-2010 03:47 PM

last time i was sliding sideways off the road at 30mph was on ice. :D

sorry to hear, hope you get her fixed soon. :)

seungklee 10-02-2010 04:06 PM

sorry to hear about your accident. sucks to hear another Z owners get involved in something like this especially when they have 40th Z! Well I'm glad you are all right. I hope it gets worked out. Good luck!

Urbanracer 10-02-2010 06:25 PM

Sorry, but no one "freshy oils" a road. Oil was only used back in the day on gravel roads to keep the dust down. I design/construct roads for a living and a new asphalt road will yield better traction then an older one. They may have crack sealed it but thats not oil either. Sorry to hear about your mishap with your Z. Spares suck.

Well I'm glad you are alive and well.
Go to therapy, im sure you're banged up!

Jeffblue 10-02-2010 08:34 PM

i dont know if this has been mentioned yet, but if you get a flat in one of the rear wheels in our cars with a limited slip differential (sports package, 40th, nismo) you should probably take off your front wheel of that side of the car, put it on the rear, and put the donut up front. This was probably a contributing factor in your accident. Having a tire 1/4 the size of your drive wheel on a rear wheel drive car equipped with an LSD is going to mess with your traction.

yeah, but I didn't think I'd be doing anything more than granny driving for a few hours.

Newly laid "asphalt", will yield better traction than the old one!
"But this is not asphalt"! It's a "oily tar slurry" that is used to cover the asphalt, or the old road!

AtomicRob 10-02-2010 11:20 PM

That's messed up how the guy behind you didn't even stop to see if you're OK. That's one of the reasons why I left California. Too many people not giving a shite about others. The first year I lived in NC the wife and I where leaving a trade show when the dude in front of us on a Harley took a spill. I and two other cars stopped. I called 911 while the others helped make sure the guy was doing ok and moving his bike out of the way of traffic.

The important thing is you came out of it OK. The car can be fixed.

ImportConvert 10-03-2010 07:37 AM

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. Thats crap. Glad you and all involved are physically ok, though.

Spare tires suck. I ran one on my WS6 one time out of necessity and a 3rd-gear roll on would have it hopping and going crazy. Spare tires for sports cars are meant to LIMP to the shop to bolt another real one on.

Milenko2121 11-09-2010 07:53 PM

the body shop STILL isnt done with my car..
