Default Question about oil temp and long trips

I have an upcoming trip near Bakersfield Ca. I live in Washington State approx., 80 miles north of Seattle. What is considered as normal oil temp. Since I've bought the car I've checked the oil cumsumption weekly and it is maintaining the same. The oil temp has been between 180 and 220, the Dealer tech said that is normal temp.

Thanks

You are fine, the Z does very well on long trips. Just take breaks to give your body a chance to stretch.

You won't need to worry about the car. Just stop and walk around every now and then to take in the scenery.

That temperature range is perfect, I would see that when the ambient temperature was around 70 degrees or less. Once it started warming up above 80 degrees, my highway cruising temps would get up to 230-240 which I did not like. Now that I have a 25 row oil cooler, I get 180 on the highway which I feel is pretty much perfect and even sitting in traffic, the oil temperature only reaches 190.

Mine never exceeded 230 degrees on a long freeway cruise on a very hot 85-90 degree day at an average speed of about 75 MPH. Most of the time it stayed about 210-220 degrees. On a brisk mountain drive it never exceeded 235 degrees although I wasn't flogging it either. Use a good synthetic oil and don't worry about it unless you're constantly hovering around 260 or higher. That would be unusual for even 80 MPH freeway cruising.

Did this trip in August 2009. No problems. Currently about 35,000 miles. You shouldn't have any issues.
Miles so far

I just did a canyon run and my oil temp was in the range of 220-230 degrees in mostly 4th and 5th gear going uphill and then downhill.

Before an oil cooler installation, I have had oil temp problems, especially going uphill. Can you check back and let us know how Grants Pass (or elsewhere) effected oil temp. The car cools from 260 to 240 or less in about 20 minutes.

I have an Auto Trans. Does the oil temp run higher in the Manual Trans?
