Default New short block

I am expected to pick up newly installed short block and oil cooler Friday. Last month much was made of the best way to break-in an engine which ended in arguments and a closed thread. What is the favored method to hasten the process? The original break-in was done by the book and that certainly ended in high oil consumption. Thank you all.

Follow the recomemended breakin procedures, If an issue gets traced to improper breakin in your screwed. Play it safe until its properly broken-in.

My car had 80 miles on it before it was at the drag strip

I dont buy into the whole break in hype, especially with newer cars.

I'm still in the break-in on my motor. I'm following it religously. I would recommend you doing the same especially with a newly built block. I really don't think manufacturers would recommend it if there wasn't a reason.

I know this is a debate in and of itself, but I think break-in is a good thing. Even if it doesn't extend engine life, is there something really so awful about driving your car conservatively for the first X miles and slowly learning its baseline capabilities before driving it like a raving lunatic (in other words, how I drive my Z since break-in)?

lol

Edit: I forgot about today's instant gratification culture. Carry on.

I don't think the excessive oil consumption issue is related to the break-in proceedure one way or another... and the debate will continue. What I do beleive is that with current technology and micro-finish surface verification, that break-in procedures are much less critical than they were say 20 years ago. Not to mention that almost all the tolerances are verified with CMM equipment.

I bought my car with 491 miles on it. I have no idea what was done to it in those miles. My assumption is that it was flogged. I bought it in Connecticut and drove it home to Indiana the next day. I tried my best to follow the recommended break in procedure.
So what is my point? Well, I now have 8200 miles on the car and it doesn't use a drop of oil... Yet.
I believe in properly breaking in an engine and I will always follow the recommended procedure but I think it all comes down to luck.

My car is mainly driven on the highway, and I don't always keep it below 4k rpm. The oil level is still the same since my first oil change.
