From a Nismo to an Avalanche

When I purchased my 2009 370z Nismo last year, I had just ended a 7 year relationship with a woman and decided to reward myself handsomely. Even though we worked on our relationship and got back together, I kept the Z and loved every minute of it.

I got married a couple weeks ago (we're 1000% better off than this time last year) and just couldn't see keeping the Z forever, which was my original plan. If we had 1 or 2 kids, we might be able to make it work since she has an SUV, but I wanted a little more flexibility in that.

So I found a great deal on a 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche and traded-in the Nismo. I lost my *** on the trade-in, but it evened out by getting 10k off of sticker on an Avalanche LT.

This forum is great, and I still plan on lurking. Thanks for all the great info you all shared, as well as the laughs.

P.S. A couple of small comparisons, for those interested:

- Power, handling, speed, sound..... the Z is unmatched compared to this truck. Even gas mileage was great in the Z compared to the Avalanche!
- Comfort, luxury, roominess, storage all make the Avalanche superior for my situation going forward.
- The Bose system in the Avalanche is actually quite good. I pulled all my stereo stuff out of the Z in anticipation of switching it over, but I won't be doing that now. I'll probably add a sub or two with an amp, and that's it.
- Driving the Avalanche on the highway made my Z feel like I was on a roller coaster. I didn't think a truck would be more smooth than a sports car.

Hope you enjoy the new truck!

Good luck!

christian370z 08-11-2010 05:29 PM

Good lord that is a big change, but sometimes you have to make some sacrifices! I agree with you that the Z is one of the less practical cars out there but as long as you are happy with the Avalanche, that is all that matters.

Matt 08-11-2010 05:32 PM

I've always wanted an avalanche or caddy EXT, but never had a use for the size, towing and cargo space. It really is a beautiful truck. I'm loving it, but definitely missing the Z too.

Wow.. Hope u like ur new ride dude.. Glad it all worked out too

I want to stay single. LOL

daleks 08-11-2010 06:00 PM

Congrats on making a positive life decision!

That said, someone needs to make a thread recounting all the people who had to sell their Nismo's at their wife's behest. Though I don't know what's made more owner's part ways with their Nismo: a wife or the VDC button.

I think the Avalanche is sick anyways

Montez 08-11-2010 06:10 PM

Man you are doing what you got to do (prioritizing), are you going to put some rims or any other mods on it?

austex 08-11-2010 06:15 PM

I had a bunch of trucks while I was a single guy. Great for towing, hunting, carrying bikes, golf clubs etc... Last one was an 06 z71 silverado crew. great trucks. once I got married and now have two cars including a tahoe, I downsized to an 09 Z. to each his own. If I had 40K laying around I'd buy another chevy crew cab as a daily driver....

but love my z!

rmorrow 08-11-2010 06:17 PM

Ouch...I am looking at the Nismo pic and the Avalance pic. Such major sacrifices we make in the name of love.
I guess if a "she" was involved and I was younger, I would probably dump my 370Z for a minivan once cupid shot several arrows in my a*s.
Your eyes are glazed over with looooooove. You will eventually find your sanity, and then you will be back. I overcame my blindness...truck is gone and 370Z is in the garage. Still married too! My grandpa once said "You gotta watch those women. They will hang on you like a Sunday suit. The right one comes along, and she will make a hounddog quit his trail, a tadpole swallow a whale, and a preacher lay his bible down."

Matt 08-11-2010 06:18 PM

Now, just to clear it up... My wife is pissed I got rid of the Z! She loved it, and doesn't really think I needed to make the trade. I just knew once the Z was paid off, there was gonna be no way I'd get rid of it. And if I kept it and we still needed another vehicle, that'd be a lot of money put aside for just cars.

If anything, I just plan on adding some subs, doing some debadging, and possibly getting some new tires/rims (but not until these need to be replaced).

+1. The Avalanche has always been an SUV I've wanted.

rmorrow 08-11-2010 06:43 PM

Now that you have clarified the situation, I would say that you should have kept the NISMO, and you should definitely keep THE WIFE.

:roflpuke2: :happydance:

I remember I had a day dream about a week ago. She just had our first baby in this dream, and I pushed her wheel chair to the curb of the hospital, took our baby from her arms and turned to put him/her into the car seat... only to find the Z parked there. I looked at my wife and said, "It's ok honey, I'll come back for you!"

After that dream, I just felt I had to do what I had to do. There is no doubt, however, that a Z will return to my driveway....eventually.

steveg78 08-11-2010 07:16 PM

Damn, you got married pretty quick and ditched the Z before your new wife has even conceived your first child! That's some fast moving. Good luck!

Marriage = Neutering

I wouldn't call getting married after 7 years of living together "quick", haha.

Marriage = making decisions for the benefit of your family instead of just yourself .... not to sound too "hallmark".

m4a1mustang 08-11-2010 07:24 PM

You know what you did and why you did it, no worries. Like I said earlier... that truck is awesome.

It's not like you went and dumped your NISMO for a minivan.

My bad I misunderstood your original post. It sounded like you broke up and found a new girl...I missed the "got back together part". I'm just raggin' on you man. Best of luck!

No worries. That would have been quick! Marriage or not, no way I'm dumping the Z for a girl I've known for a couple months! haha.

@Mustang - Thanks!

F1loco 08-11-2010 07:31 PM

Ha, traded my '08Ford F250 twin screw diesel for the Nismo....

AK370Z 08-11-2010 07:33 PM

Nice truck man! I'd drive it. Please stay with us in our forum. You're always welcome here.

nicknick 08-11-2010 07:34 PM

Since she has a SUV, why did you sell your Z? It sounds like you have no kids anyway from your post, ("if we had 1 or 2 kids").
I just don't get why people need to buy SUV's.

She has an SUV, sure. But personally, I couldn't imagine, even with only 1 kid (which we plan on having VERY soon) that anytime the 3 of us need to do anything, we need to use her SUV. She can't drive stick, so that means we'd never be able to switch cars. If she needed to go out of town and I needed to grocery shop with the kid in tow, etc., etc. Just didn't make sense to me. And as I've said, I've always wanted an avalanche. I'm sad about the Z but stoked about the truck at the same time!

PapoZalsa 08-11-2010 08:01 PM

I would never get rid of my Z or any other car for that reason. My car is my hobby, no way Jose!!!

That is why the old lady has a SUV (family transportation) and I got a "hupty" small pick up for the things around the house.

But is his decision...

What? You contemplate switching cars? Well maybe your wife is car sympathetic, cause my wife is surely not and that is why i do not swap with her. Best of luck to ya.

Black kNight 08-11-2010 08:19 PM

best of luck

Red370 08-11-2010 08:37 PM

sad to see ya go man, hope everything goes well with you and the wife. I'm planning on staying single for this very purpose, I dont want to have to make a choice between a woman or my car... i'd take my car regardless but still...

Not permamently, but let's say I needed to transport kids/cargo/etc somewhere while she was at work. If I kept the Z, it wouldn't be possible because she can't drive manual. Now, under any circumstance, either one of us can drive the other car.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. Note, I'm not going anywhere...this forum is a lot of fun!

phelan 08-12-2010 01:17 AM

Avalanches are great trucks

Damn that's rough trading in such a nice car... I'm glad my wife basically forced me to buy this 370Z with her. It's nice being young lol.

That's great that you two can enjoy those cars together!

I'm still pretty young, although I don't feel as young as I am...27 years old. All my friends are 40 years old, and one of my best friends is 52. I'm either an old soul, or just a really boring person...hahaha.

Sounds like me... I don't think a single one of my professional friends is younger than 45. Well, one or two lol.

Let's go with old soul.

I like the fact that my 45 year old friends can hold their liquor after a long night, LOL!

EDIT:

Another thing to point out, is that the Avalanche forums SUCK compared to these forums. Yikes, it's a snoozefest over there.
