Default Black Spot on Rims? 370z

Hello, didn't know which thread to post this in so..........

I drive a 370z,noticed some black spots on the rims that look like splashes of black paint(drivers side), I tried tar/bug remover and it didn't work, I can't even remove or scratch it off with my finger nails, there are also little spots(minor) on the side body of the car.......any ideas? Looks like I drove over something? Thanks in advance!

by the way its all over the rims

check out the pic

The rim is black underneath and if you look around the forum you'll see people complain about the black showing up. I got a rockchip on my rim and found the black underneath, and there is some fading inside the lip, so it seems like it's more of a defect than anything else.

try some wax.

or little dab of gasoline works too, but be sure to rinse the gasoline from your rag before you toss it in the trash.

i also have a can of RC motor spray (nitro cleaner) which also works great.

I think the tar remover that companies make today is meant to take off tar they used to use 30 years ago - the tar these guys are putting down now is way beyond even the best tar removers capabilities - some good advice here though so far - I would add Carburetor Cleaner to that list but be very careful to only get it on the spots you want removed - if that doesn't take it off then its permanent.

I think you're right, somehow the paint came off the rims, tried some metal polish for rims from Pepboys and it actually made it worse which showed its actually paint coming off because you can see the black underneath

Yeah you are right the paint on the wheels is VERY THIN and is subject to coming off with anything even mildly abrassive. I would only use soap and water to clean these wheels and even the safe wheel cleaners may cut thru the finish.

I think its the heaviest (or lightest) spot of the rim and should be matched up with the red dot on the sidewall of the tire which would be the opposite of the rim's weight. This helps making balancing the rim/tire combo easier with less weights.
