I just read on Nissan.com that if you constantly drive at high revs on the highway (especially 3rd and 4th gear) the company will give you a free Nissan Leaf for all the hard work you are doing. Keep up the good job and make sure you stay in 3rd gear most of the time.

You know, I love feeling the rush of acceleration almost more than anything... I'll let my lead foot loose if I deem it appropriate and safe (like an empty highway onramp or unoccupied road) whenever possible, but I'm feathering the gas and practically hypermiling other times. Why? Because it saves gas and saves wear and tear on the engine and other drivetrain components. *******. Common. Sense.

If I'm able to exercise restraint with modified cars making almost twice as much power as your stock Z does, why is it so difficult for you to be nice to your NISMO? Are you just that dense?

keeping the car in gear when you slow down to a stop, and then depressing the clutch once the revs drop to about 1000 and coming to a complete stop does not cause excess wear, correct?

correct, given that you gently downshift into the lower gear.

and i usually clutch-in before the engine goes idle (you can feel a bump in the drivetrain) so probabaly a tad higher than 1K rpm.

yea i was just approximating. I usually just think of it like, if i need to gradually slow down, i'll downshift into a lower gear, if i need to slow down quickly, i brake, then downshift if i need to speed back up. if i need to stop suddenly, both feet in.

yep, im always in-gear pretty much. i use engine braking a lot especially on my under powered Fit, the a/c has a lot of drag so i can brake quite a bit in traffic.

i just need to watch out for tail gaters cause they wont see my tail lamps when im engine braking. :D

good to hear i'm not the only one. a lot of people just neutral and stop, even if they are going like 50. its just wasting your brakes. i mean, i'm not a proponent of downshifting every gear to slow down, or shifting from 5-2 to slow down, as that is not good for your transmission, but there is obviously a medium

yah, if im going 50 and need to brake quickly i would skip 4th and go directly to 3rd while braking, but otherwise i would downshift to 4th, watch traffic ahead and down shift to 3rd and stop... unless im going to be accelerating quickly again i dont usually shift into 2nd and just coast in 3rd.

agree with that, for me i downshift just to have it rev. its such a happy noise.

OP, do your thing. Redline everywhere you go. Heck, redline while your car is on coldstart. It'll warm your car up faster. :tup:

i know what you mean, i only downshift to a gear that won't bring the revs past 4k, given the speed i'm going.
