Well keep in mind that the first gen, during those 9 years, got 5 revisions. Three of those 5 revisions included different engines and names (240z, 260z, 280z)

The 3rd gen or 300zx Z31 was only around 6years (84-89) with 3 model changes during it's reign.

The 4th gen or 300zx Z32 was only around 7years (90-96) or 9 years in Japan as it went until 98. Which brings me to my final point, Nissan kept the 300zx alive for 13-15years (depending on country) without changing the name. It's possible Nissan does this again with the 370z. Leaving the 3.7 engine but redesigning the car. It's possible in the future they go back to a n/a and FI option. Keeping the lower displacement would keep gas mileage from getting worse while the FI option would give the increase in power the car would need to still be competitive.

Looking at Nissan's history does shed some light on possibilities but it also shows us that they change their minds a lot (as does any car company). So who really knows until Nissan releases some info

Indeed. Nissan definitely has a history of refreshes during the generations. Probably more so than any other car I think of off the top of my head; but are we interested in when the 370 will be refreshed (which will probably be in the next couple years) or when the 370 will be replaced?

Not only the first gen, but the 280zx and z31 300zx got several refreshes. The 90-96 300zx not so much but that may have had to do with sales and cost.

I believe it was up to 99 in Japan. Now I heard the 99 model was the same as the 96-98 with different fascia/spoiler etc. I have a '99 fascia on my Z32. See my gallery.
