Stupid transmission related question...

You should be able to keep in 6th gear and accelerate a little more, no need to floored the gas pedal.

This is on the automatic tranny. I understand that WOT at 7th might not be needed, but the scenario I presented is somewhat hypothetical.

Basically I'm just trying to understand if going at a given acceleration in one gear would be equivalent in fuel efficiency when compared to going that same amount of acceleration in another gear. For instance WOT in 7th and a matching acceleration in 5th or 6th.
