i am 23 and can honestly say that more people around my age have no idea how to do this than i imagined. however, i know plenty driving vets that can do it seemlessly. i think its almost become a lost art in the autosport world with people 30 and younger....

Umm weird. I'm 25 and can say me a couple of my buddies can heel toe just fine. But for me I will keep my SRM on since I have it.

I just hope they don't come out with auto steer. Then we'll know the world really is going to sh!t.

My car is automitic so it doesnt have it, can someone please describe what the synchro rev does? how it feels etc? I've owned manual trans vehicles before I messed up my ankle I don't know if I was great at it but I was pretty smooth

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, just put your car in manual mode and down shift, that rev match is SRM on the MT.

With synchro rev match, when you step on the clutch and start to move the shifter into a lower gear the system senses which gear your about to go into and blips the throttle to match the revs of the engine to the speed your going in that gear for a nice smooth downshift every time. Instead of having to try and match it yourself.

It's too bad I can't change my vote now. Since September, I've been practicing heel-toe downshifts and now I have the hang of it. So, I prefer to doing it by myself now. SRM is on only when my wife drives. I must say though, that's it's easier to downshift smoother in the STi than the Z. Part of the reason is the Z has touchier brakes.

Don't like it and don't use it.

so in other words you can basically shift without even having your foot on the gas pedal? I don't think I could ever get used to that

No, it's you don't need to 'blip' the gas before you lift off the clutch when down-shifting.

This had me laughing :rofl2:

As for me, I know I can drive stick, but I am by no means an expert at heel/toe and SRM makes me feel (and sound) godly

I should take it off every now and then to practice, thats for sure...

crazyyankfan 01-25-2012 07:05 PM

I think a lot of people who drive a standard can to heel-toe if they actually spend time practicing. I can do it but I am not able to master the skill. My personal opinion, no matter how good you are with the skill, you can never be as precise as the computer when it comes to rev-matching.

Sure you can gain the feel about how much throttle you're supposed to give when downshifting from 3-2, for example, but you can still be 100-200 rpm off per say. Flexing of human muscles is just never meant to be "precise". Just my thoughts.
