Not all have this, but it seems pretty common and nothing to worry about

Welcome!

I hear this sound as well and am concerned as well. When in first gear and I engage the clutch before I shift into 2nd, I hear that clunky spinning noise as well. It just seems that my shifts from 1st to second aren't that smooth and all I am doing is pressing in the clutch before letting off the gas. Have you been driving manual for a while? I was driving auto for 7 years and now back to a manual so I may just be a little rusty.

I only do this from first to second to prevent the jerkiness. You are right though, I guess i push in the clutch as I am releasing the gas.
