I can't chirp the tires going into 2nd gear...

Does that mean I suck? :icon17:

I used to be able to chirp the tires going from 1st to 2nd on my 350, but I can't do it with the 370. Am I the only one?

I'm starting to think that maybe because I've been ignoring the normal break in guidelines, that the engine's performance might be suffering. That would suck. :shakes head:

fatcat777 04-07-2010 05:20 PM

turn vdc off

no it just means you have VDC on or you have proper traction. It's been really warm lately on long island so you are less likely to hear any "chirp" between shifts.

fullmonty 04-07-2010 05:59 PM

I was next to a friend of mine at a traffic light, he was in like a 1990 Dodge Shadow with 200K on it. I figured I'd accelerate with some pep and not like granny for once, so I did. He blew my doors off accelerate wise cause the VDC kicked in and bogged me down to nothing. VDC- Is both a blessing and a curse

kenchan 04-07-2010 06:08 PM

dont lift off your gas pedal when you shift and power shift into 2nd. see if your MT breaks.

Red370 04-07-2010 06:24 PM

Agreed, turn your traction control off, I chirp in 3rd pretty easily.

:wtf2:

ftwayne370z 04-07-2010 06:38 PM

Yeah i dont have a problem getting mine to break loose going into second and chirp in third! mine break loose if i smash the gas in second too.

Just do like that commercial on TV, qbout SRM or whatever. He had to make the shifting noise for his girl, you can make the chirp noise for yourself.

Joe- you can't have enough miles to be driving like that already!! Guess you spoke with Vinny already.

Matt 04-07-2010 07:30 PM

I haven't managed to chirp or squeel tires in any gear yet, even with VDC off. I think it's because I'm a chicken-****.

Well, you are a bit modded. But I have also chirpped into 3rd on occasion with my stock Z.

I know! But can anyone who has a Z actually go the first 1200 miles driving like an old lady? I'm really hoping that the "break in period" is an urban myth!

I did speak with Vinny! Getting the toys put in this Saturday. Damn these boards...if it wasn't for all these nicely modded Z's I would have been just as happy keeping the car stock! :icon17:

AK370Z 04-07-2010 08:37 PM

VDC = OFF
Gas Pedal = To the Metal.

Hope this helps

Are your tires made of plastic? Second chirps pretty hard for me, to where I get a very good lurch forward, but third gear? Maybe by the time I hit 65mph in second I'm too paranoid about cops to focus on shifting right...

I drag twice a month, I launch at 3k usually, once I hook up, its already time to shift to 2nd, i usually spin and fishtail for a half second or so, then I shift hard into 3rd and chirp like a mother, give your car some throttle and shift fast and properly, you'll chirp in 3rd, but you might need some more mods first.

Snakes709 04-07-2010 11:32 PM

like everyone said, turn vdc off. My video should help you...crappy burnout = vdc on...chirping 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear...

YouTube - 370z drag race

ps, sorry for the lenght of it...guy was prepping both lanes

Break in period is a myth. I reamed the piss out of my Z off the lot. Still do, it pulls stronger than ever too. Trust me, I'm a mechanical engineer.

Geez, Monty, I've lost what little respect I had for you :icon17:

j/k, man. Next time rev it to 3500 rpm, drop the clutch and you'll smoke all those bad boyz in their Dodge Shadows.

jtown82 04-08-2010 11:57 AM

heh i chirped 3rd in my A7 last week shifting in manual mode

shabarivas 04-08-2010 12:17 PM

I constantly chirp 1-> 2 and 2->3 and I almost never turn off VDC

chitown1863 04-08-2010 12:35 PM

The Z is one of the easiest cars that I have ever chirped...it will do 3rd without even trying...I love my car lol

Matt 04-10-2010 02:50 PM

Late last night, I turned VDC off as I turned onto an empty highway. I gunned it up to around 70 (the speed limit) red-lining both from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. No chirping, no riding the clutch.

I must suck at spirited driving.

Okay...maybe a little fun. :driving:

Mind you, I don't personally care about spinning tired...I'd rather not, to be honest. Burn-outs and chirping tires aren't my thing, so I appreciate VDC for the most part. But all this talk of how easy it should be makes me sad.

kenchan 04-10-2010 03:25 PM

Make sure you listen carefully to the front tires because that's where all the chirpinage comes from.

People on Long Island need to stop buying 370s!!!!

lol jk.. im in port jeff station and I can not tell you how many 370s I have seen on the road lately... its getting crazy... I have seen more in this last week than I have in the last 6 months of me owning my 370...

Do you go on Jayne Blvd ? I think I prob saw you on that rd, i flashed and waived at a PG roadster last weekend...

chuckd05 04-10-2010 04:38 PM

also try shifting earlier around 5500, if you have sport package you should chirp and prob kick the rear out a bit...

Just shift faster, and be quicker wit you feet!

Danny3.7 04-10-2010 08:32 PM

Idunno about you guys but I can chirp consistently going into 2nd with VDC on... It really surprised me when it happened while i was test driving a 370z for the first time.

There's a lot of factors that contribute to tire spin, such as tire pressure, tire temperature, ambient temp, road temp, road composition, tire composition, etc...You may have just got lucky and encountered "perfect" driving conditions :-P

craniac24 04-10-2010 08:43 PM

Turning VDC off got me to chirp 2nd. Adding an intake and exhaust lets me chirp 3rd now.

NCSUPACK09 04-11-2010 04:58 PM

Yesterday, I chirped the tires going into 2nd with the VDC on. I don't even want to know what it would be like with it turned off...lol

Imitation is the highest form of flattery. But ya still sucks

chitown1863 04-12-2010 01:46 PM

I took my car to the track a month ago for the first time....I burnt up both first and second...I actually had to get off the throttle and then back on just so the tires would hook up. In my experience you need to be easy with the clutch to make sure the car hooks up properly.

370zFORme!! 04-12-2010 02:11 PM

Ya I can also chirp from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd with vdc on.
