While it's only natural to feel a little forlorn at the prospect of being one-upped by the Mustang, I think it's beneficial to keep the big picture in mind. What drives Nissan -- or any car company for that matter -- to improve their product is competition. They're not improving their cars with each successive generation just because they're bored or because they're feeling altruistic. They're doing it to compete. Competition drives progress and innovation. On a side note, this is why I'm reluctant to sink the coin into going F.I. As much fun as I'm having with modding my current Z, I know that sooner or later the next best thing is going to come out, at which point my current car is going to get kicked to the curb because I'll view it as obsolete. That's just me; it's how my mind works. I used to deny it and tell myself that I'd keep my car forever in order to justify the expense of modding it. But I know better. For better or worse, I have an 'out with the old and in with the new' mentality. So now I try to exercise moderation when it comes to how much I spend on modding. |
We will not know how they compare
until they go head to head. The buzz is that the new Mustang 5.0 will run over 70 mph in the slalom so it is two mph faster then the old 4.6. With those nuumbers and its over 420 HP, it could give the 370Z a good run on the track. Folks that run the old Mustang in AutoX say that they can be tuned to do much better on the track and turn in better times then the 370 for not much cash. However, the only thing that should matter is which car you enjoy driving and which one puts a bigger grin on your face..

Overall, the Mustang, performance-wise, would beat us. Good job Ford. I'm proud of ya. It's about time. Semtex, great comment above. As a lot of us have been taught, there will always be something better. (I still love the Z's looks and performance.) Don't even flex guys. Anyone out racing, watch what stock GT vs. stock 370 will do on any track. Again. I'm proud of Ford. I even like the 2011 Ford Edge Sport over my new FX35. Always something newer. That's the way it works. Some just do it better than others.

A bright yellow raincoat is much better at protecting me from the rain than my coat. But it's just not my style. I am not the least bit upset about any other car besting my Z. There are so many reasons to purchase a car and performance is just one.

My last car had a back seat and had more trunk space than the Z and it is the same size give or take about 2 inches (Audi TT). The back seats couldnt be used for an adult but a child seat or small child can fit in the back and I could put the seats down and have 3x the space the Z has. I considered it a sports car just like the Z and if you get the TTS its just as fast, so 2 seat and 4 seat can be sports cars/muscle cars and will be looked at by both sides. Todays cars are really a combination of sports car and muscle cars. Cuz now most muscle cars are getting comfort things added to them to make them more pleasureable to more people. Difinaitions change as times change.

You can call any car a sports car…….but you cannot argue with the true definition of what makes a car a sports car! Audi TT is nothing but a GTI……are you saying a VW is a sports car? |
