The Z is really a true classy sports car. But it really depends on your taste.

We in recent years have changed the meaning of rice to be the uglier japanese cars. But 20 or 25 years ago, while we were in a cold war with the soviet union and american patriotism was dangerously runamuck. Rice meant cheap japanese car of any brand and was associated with not supporting the "american economy" when you bought one. The favorite joke on japanese sports cars was that the exhaust made that sound because it was laced with raw rice. The Z also had this label. Most americans hated the Z and Rx-7 stating they were the cheapest copies of porsches and corvettes.
Now americans have come to accept the inferior quality of the domestic sports car so they buy what they consider "the exception to the rule in japanese design" and call everything else rice. Then scream out japanese sports car heritage in a Z or skyline like your great grandfather was asian auto engineer??? Confusing ain't it. Lol.
Why can't you just call a car cheap without the subtle racist subversive comments? An evo in styling is what the japanese enthusiast market likes. Its part of there culture. If the mitsu is rice? Then the stang is a potatomobile? Or maybe a camaro is a corn machine? The challenger... hmmm the wheatmaker??? Keep it real please.

To the OP, you just need to break it down by what your needs & future are with the car. Also, I ended up not even really looking at the Evo X in the end because the dealerships were being the same about a test drive. I was about to leave the dealership with a group of them standing around me when one asked what I have already test driven, listed off a few cars, they started to scramble to find the keys but I had already left.

I am 6 ft 3 and 95 kg. I fit without a problem. If I wanted it perfect I would like just a little bit more leg room, but that is just being picky. It never annoyed me in any way!

And about evo X vs 370z.
My personal opinion is that I would never ever buy a sedan with spoilers and wings. And for a fun car I want atleast 6 cilinders (I know this isnt the same for everyone but its just a preference).

In my book the only reason to pick an evo X is for its room. I am lucky enough to have a second car from work which has alot more space.

I never drove an evo X because I never considerd it, however if a salesman doesnt want me to testdrive a car I would never buy it. Seems to me that he isnt to convinced about the car. (atleast thats how I would understand it, if its true or not)

If I could have only one car and it was between those two I'd take the Evo simply because I live in a snow state and have kids. If this was my "fun" car and I already had multiple daily drivers I'd do like I did and get a Z Roadster :)

Or that the guy wasnt serious about buying and the salesman didnt want to put unneeded milage on it.

When I was younger I used to have a hard time with salesmen thinking I was just joyriding. I don't know how old Patel511 is, but if you look young a lot of people won't take you seriously.

dammit you took my line, get the EVO please, one less Z on the street makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I did test drive evoX. I liked the design and styling but as reliability. The trunk cant even put a travling bags and the seats not folding. Mostly major turbo lag.
So i bought the 08 STI. And now i got Z. Much more refined more classier better looking and for power wise FI V6 will eat turbo 4banger. That was my conclusion
also my driving style fits to RWD. I do like AWD and it is fast but for me RWD is way more fun

evo < sti = or < Z

Well, I just got back from the Nissan dealer and I was trying to use the VPP. I had called earlier to make sure they accepted VPP's and I was told that they did. So i got to the dealership and asked for the 40th edition, we were working through the paperwork by this time an hour had already passed and the sales manager came by and looked it over, then she went to the GM to get final approval and he said no to the VPP. I was furious at this point and walked out... The best excuse was that they could try to give me a deal. I was serious about purchasing my dad was there too... So as we were leaving the salesman came out to apologize and he said "I hope there is no bad blood between us" I said of course not cuz it wasn't his fault. I understand no VPP on a GTR cuz its expensive and rare but I have already seen people get it on the 40th on this forum. I am 20 and will be 21 here in a month, just for reference

theDreamer 03-30-2010 06:48 PM

If you want the Z, I would call another dealership about the VPP program (they might even have a 40th).

Red370 03-30-2010 06:48 PM

oh man, you have more couth than I buddy, i would have spit out every curse word in the book at all of them for wasting my time. I'm reminded of a quote from half baked:
